ABSTRAK

Gel adsorben yang memiliki kemampuan mengadsorpsi dan mendesorpsi ion secara simultan dengan perubahan suhu temperature swing dihasilkan melalui reaksi kopolimerisasi radikal bebas antara N-isopropylacrylamide NIPAM dan NN-dimethyl-acrylamidopropylammonium propane sulfonate DMAAPS. NIPAM dipergunakan sebagai agen thermosensitive dan DMAAPS digunakan sebagai agen pengadsorpsi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mempelajari pengaruh perubahan suhu dan konsentrasi larutan terhadap properti swelling adsorpsi dan desorpsi ion pada NIPAM-co-DMAAPS gel dan hubungan antara properti-properti tersebut. NaNO3 dipergunakan sebagai larutan uji dalam mempelajari properti swelling adsorpsi dan desorpsi. Uji swelling dilakukan dengan mengukur diameter dari silinder gel pada keadaan kering dan setelah kontak dengan larutan NaNO3 selama 12 jam. Dari hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa swelling degree dari gel mengalami kenaikan dengan bertambahnya suhu dan konsentrasi larutan. Selain itu pada suhu tinggi jumlah ion yang teradsorpsi sedikit menurun pada konsentrasi larutan yang tetap namun kemampuan desorpsi cenderung meningkat.


ABSTRACT

Adsorbent gels with ability to absorb and desorb ion simultaneously with temperature change are synthesized by free radical copolymerization reaction of N-isopropylacrylamide NIPAM and NN-dimethylacrylamidopropylammonium propane sulfonate DMAAPS. In this study NIPAM acts as a thermosensitive agent and DMAAPS as an adsorbent agent. The purposes of this research are to investigate the effects of temperature and concentration solution on swelling adsorption and desorption behaviors of NIPAM-co-DMAAPS gel and to study the relationship between these behaviors. NaNO3 solution was selected as the target solution and used in swelling adsorption and desorption test. Swelling test performed by measuring diameter of the cylindrical gel before and after immersion in the NaNO3 solution for 12 hours. The result showed that the swelling degree of the gel increased with temperature and concentration of the solution. Moreover at higher temperature the adsorption amount of ion slightly decreased at fixed solution concentration however the desorption ability tend to increased.
