COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE USE OF BLINKING AND TIMER FOR KEY SELECTION IN EYE BASED HUMAN COMPUTER INTERACTION HCI

This paper presents an investigation of
the use of blinking and timer for key selection in eyebased
HCI. There are two famous selection modes in existing eye-based HCI unfortunately the effectiveness of those methods never been investigated. In this paper we investigate the use of blinking and timer in eye-based HCI by measuring the typing speed and accuracy when users type 14 characters using eye-based HCI system and brain load test. The experiment data shows that the blinking has faster typing speed but worse in accuracy. Otherwise timer has better accuracy but requires longer time to type a word. Moreover the timer has less fatigue effect compared to blinking. The investigation result will be useful for researchers who are conducting a research in eye-based HCI.
