SCRIS A KNOWLEDGE BASED SYSTEM FOR IDENTIFICATION OF SUPPLY CHAIN RISKS

Risk identification is the first and crucial step in risk management process. Nowadays due to the nature and complexity of supply chain networks of manufacturing organizations risk identification has become more challenging. This paper outlines the Supply Chain Risk Identification System SCRIS developed by utilizing Knowledge Based System approach. SCRIS assists organizations in risk identification process by not only
suggesting potential risks considering organizations internal and external factors but also presenting the complex
interactions of SC risks. The recommendations of SCRIS are
useful in supporting decision making processes and augmenting critical dependencies between supply chain risks which are in turn used as feedback to risk analysis processes hence creating the iterative nature of risk management processes. SCRIS is developed to support Made-To-Order Made-To -Stock and Engineered-To- Order manufacturing types. It is validated in three manufacturing organizations and feedback received shows that most of the critical risks were captured due to its extensive knowledge base.
