BIOCLIMATIC CONCEPTS IN THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF INDOOR THERMAL COMFORT IN WARM AND HUMID TROPICAL HOUSING ESTATES

Nowadays modern humans spend most of their time indoors for various activities. In order for those
activities to be done a room is required that can provide thermal comfort. As a result of these conditions the need for the energy used to support these activities is increasing. This is suspected to be one contributor to global warming a much-discussed topic today. This paper will review bioclimatic design concepts that are considered capable of supporting sustainable architecture particularly in warm and humid tropical housing estates. The main method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach. The result of this research is the review of theories associated with bioclimatic design for housing estates in the warm and humid tropics. Also the idea of a bioclimatic approach for housing estate design in warm and humid tropical climates will be introduced. This study is expected to help to minimize energy consumption demanded to satisfy needs for thermal comfort and thus help reduce global warming.
