HARD FACING SEBAGAI METODA ALTERNATIF UNTUK PENGERASAN PERMUKAAN HAMMER MILL

ABSTRAK

Salah satu metoda untuk menaikkan kekerasan permukaan benda kerja yang terbuat dari logam atau paduan dengan cara melakukan deposit paduan di permukaan yang bersangkutan adalah hard facing. Metoda deposit logam yang sering dilakukan adalah SMAW dimana jenis elektroda yang digunakan disesuaikan dengan kekerasan yang diharapkan. Dalam penelitian digunakan baja AISI 4340 sebagai benda kerja hummer mill berpenampang segi enam tiga layer deposit logam electrode. Selanjutnya digunakan dua elektroda secara terpisah pada benda kerja yang berbeda yaitu Citrodur V 1000 dan Citromangan baik tanpa atau menggunakan electrode buffer Citochromax N pada layer pertama. Pengujian kekerasan metoda Rockwell C dan observasi mikrostruktur dilakukan pada benda kerja hasil proses hard facing untuk mengetahui hubungan keduanya. Hard facing dengan electroda citrodur V 1000 tanpa buffer menunjukkan angka kekerasan yang paling tinggi. Kekerasan yang tinggi ini kemungkinan disebabkan oleh adanya karbida yang menyusun strukturmikronya


ABSTRACT

Hard facing is one methode for increasing the surface hardness of any metal workpiece by deposit certain alloy that has specific chemical composition to obtain the hardness desired. The system metal deposit usually used is SMAW. AISI 4340 steel as a humer mill with hexagonal cross section is used as a material to be suffered the SMAW hard facing process consist of three layers metal deposit which come from two electrodes as a hard facing alloy. These electrodes Citrodur V 1000 and Citomangan are applied to the different workpiece and with Citochromax N as a buffer or not in the first layer. Rocwell C Hardess Testing and metallurgical observation are done to the harden facing workpieces in order to make the relation of both. The highest hardness number showed by hardfacing deposit from the Citrodur V 1000 electrode without buffer. It is probably cause of the precipitation of carbide in its microstructure
