PENINGKATAN KEKERASAN PERMUKAAN DAN KETAHANAN KOROSI AIR LAUT PADUAN BRONZE ALUMINIUM TYPE N3 MELALUI PELEBURAN SUPERFICIAL

ABSTRAK

Struktur mikro permukaan merupakan faktor yang tidak dapat diabaikan dalam memberikan kontribusi terhadap sifat mekanik kekerasan maupun ketahanan korosinya. Kedua sifat tresebut dapat dicapai sekaligus dengan cara memodifikasi srukturmikro permukaan menjadi struktur yang relatif lebih homogen. Struktur homogen pada lapisan permukaan superficial paduan bronze aluminium type N3 hasil pengecoran diperoleh melalui pendinginan cepat dari fasa cair dimana sumber panas berasal dari Laser O2. Parameter Laser yang digunakan daya sebesar 5700 W diameter spot 3 mm kecepatan 750 mmmin untuk membuat satu jalur lebur sepanjang 100mm. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan 20 jalur peleburan berturut-turut dimana penampang satu jalur menempati setengah dari penampang jalur sebelumnya sehingga terbentuk permukaan yang rata . Proses tersebut menghasilkan superficial melted zone setebal 05 mm. Pengujian kekerasan dengan metoda Vickers Micro Hardness di daerah superficial ini menunjukkan peningkatan kekerasan 30-150 dari kekerasan material awal. Uji korosi perendaman spesimen dalam air laut selama 15 bulan tidak menunjukkan adanya penetrasi pada lapisan superficial. Sementara itu penetrasi akibat serangan korosi terjadi pada daerah yang tidak mengalami peleburan terutama di fasa metastabil


ABSTRACT

Microstructures is a fundamental factor in determining mechanical properties especially the hardness and resistance corrosion of any alloy or metal. These properties are essential for surface and can be obtain simultaneusly by modifying the microstructure to be more homogen. Homegenisation microstructure of superficial zone bronze aluminium N3 as cast is obtained by rapid cooling from the liquid phase where Laser CO2 is used as a heat source for melting. The parameters process for one pass of 100 mm long are power of 5700W diameter of spot 3 mm vitesse 750 mmmin. Twenty passes are applied where one pass superimpose the half cross section of one before so they form a smooth superficials surface. The process of melting superficial laser CO2 result superficial melted zones thickness of 05 mm. Vickers Micro Hardness Testing on the superficial zone showed the increasement hardness of 30-150 compares to the base metal. The observation of corrosion testing in marine water for 15 mount not showed the attack of corrosin at the superficial zone. Meanwhile the penetration attack of corrosion occured at the metastable phase in the non melted zone.
