Population growth increasing every year can affect demand of Land for residentia employment and facilities thus it may reduce areas of Green Open Space RTH. Based on Indonesia Conslilulions in UU No.26 year 2007 about Spatial Planning proportion of RTH in urban areas is at least 30 of total city area. Remote sensing
technology which based on satellite image can be used for monitoring land cover especially for presence of green
open space in urban areas. This study uses a high resolution satellite image which is cligitally classified to identifY land cover. Regarding an existing land use it consists of eight classes there are buildings water bodies roads barelands beaches forests gardens and rice fields. Image processing uses object oriented method using segmentation and merging so lhat pixels in the image become homogeneous as one entity for object representing
each land cover class. The results of this study showed that green open space area consists of forest gardens and rice fields classes with a total percentage are 32.86 of total city area. Thus urban areas in Banda Aceh City can be categorized as a xegion it bas fuliilled proportion of green open space according Indonesia Constitutions in UU No.26 year 2007.
