Gas absorption largely intends to separate acid impurities from the gas stream. Carbon dioxide CO2 is an acid gas which is a harmful impurity in industrial process. Chemical absorption using aqueous solution of potassium carbonate and amine as a promotor is one of the separation method that is widely used in chemical industries to separate CO2 from the gas stream. This process is known as the Benfield process. CO2 solubility data are required for rational design and optimal operation of CO2 absorption column in chemical industries. The objective of this study is to obtain CO2 solubility data at varied CO2 concentration in the feed gas 10 15 and 20 with 30 of potassium carbonate K2CO3 as a solvent and variation of weight percent of Methyldiethanolamine MDEA as a promotor 0 2 5 8 and 10 at 30oC and atmospheric pressure using the wetted wall column. The data obtained from experiment were correlated using the Electrolyte Non-Random Two Liquid ENRTL model. The deviation of correlated CO2 partial pressure with the experimental data is 12.5. The binary interaction parameters of E-NRTL model for CO2-K2CO3-MDEA-H2O system were also obtained using Least Square method. The results of this study indicated that CO2 loading increased with the increase of weight percent of MDEA at the same partial pressure of CO2. The increase of CO2 partial pressure can enhance CO2 loading. Moreover the addition of MDEA increased the amount of CO2 reacted and CO2 dissolved.
