Isolator merupakan salah satu peralatan paling penting pada sistem transmisi dan distribusi tenaga listrik suatu negara. Isolator memiliki fungsi sebagai pelindung peralatan transmisi dan distribusi. Bahan pembuatan isolator bermacam-macam salah satunya adalah polimer. Jenis polimer yang biasanya sering digunakan adalah karet silikon. Isolator polimer memiliki beberapa kelebihan yaitu lebih tahan terhadap polutan daripada isolator kaca dan keramik karena permukaan isolator mempunyai sifat kedap air hydrophobic. Tetapi kekuatan dari permukaan isolator bisa menurun dan mengakibatkan isolator rentan terkontaminasi polutan. Faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi penurunan kekuatan isolator adalah kelembapan. Indonesia merupakan negara tropis yang memiliki tingkat kelembapan yang tinggi sehingga isolator pada peralatan distribusi dan transmisi memungkinkan untuk terkontaminasi oleh polutan. Penelitian kali ini bertujuan untuk mengamati proses kontaminasi dan menganalisa dampak polutan pada isolator polimer. Polutan yang akan digunakan sebagai kontaminan dalam penelitian ini adalah alga. Penelitian ini memodelkan pengondisian lingkungan yang lembap dengan salt-fog test. Untuk evaluasi secara dielektrik akan dilakukan tes arus bocor dan tes tegangan tembus. Dengan penelitian ini diharapkan operator dapat melakukan perawatan secara dini untuk mencegah polutan biologi agar tidak mempengaruhi kinerja dari isolator.


Insulator is one of the most important equipment in the transmission and distribution systems of electric power of a country. Insulators have protective function for transmission and distribution equipment. Insulators were made from various materials and one of them is a polymer. The type of polymer often used is silicone rubber. Polymer insulator has several advantages such as more resistant to pollutants than glass and ceramic insulators since the insulator surface has water-resistant hydrophobic. But the strength of the surface of the insulator can be decreased and the resulting insulator vulnerable to contamination of pollutants. Factors that can affect the strength of the insulator is a decrease in humidity. Indonesia is a tropical country with a high level of humidity so that the insulator on the distribution and transmission equipment allows to be contaminated by pollutants. The present study aimed to observe the contamination process and analyze the impact of pollutants on the polymer insulator. Pollutants to be used as a contaminant in this study is algae. This study modeled conditioning humid environment with salt-fog test. For evaluation dielectric strength leakage current tests and the test voltage breakdown will be conducted. With this research is expected operator can perform early treatment to prevent biological pollutants in order not to affect the performance of the insulator.
