EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON CORN GRAIN DRYER SYSTEM USING SOLAR COLLECTOR

ABSTRAK

Standar SNI 01-03920-1995 kadar air untuk jagung adalah 13-14. Untuk mendapatkan standar tersebut jagung harus melewati proses pengeringan. Pengeringan pada umumnya masih dilakukan masyarakat Gorontalo dengan memanfaatkan tenaga matahari secara langsung. Namun kekurangannya pada cara ini sangat tergantung pada musim waktu pengeringan yang lama tenaga kerja yang banyak dan tempat penjemuran yang luas. Salah satu metode pengeringan buatan yang telah dikembangkan antara lain adalah alat pengering dengan metode surya kolektor. Kolektor surya yang dirancang dan digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kolektor surya hybrid dengan absorber seng gelombang divariasikan dengan exhaust dan lima sudut kolektor. Kelima sudut kolektor yakni 900750 600 450 300. Kadar air jagung awal sebelum penelitian adalah 207. dengan penjemuran konvensional kadar air dalam sehari menurun hingga 18. sedangkan dengan menggunakan alat kolektor surya pada variasi sudut 450 tidak memakai exhaust kadar airnya menurun hingga 1501 dan pada saat memakai exhaust kadar airnya turun hingga 1237. Laju penguapan Qe sebesar 2758011 watt. Qloss dapat dikurangi dengan menggunakan 1 lapisan styrofoam dengan tebal sampai dengan 5cm sedangkan penambahan styrofoam di luar kotak pengering tidak terlalu banyak menurunkan Qloss.


ABSTRACT

SNI 01-03920-1995 has standardized corn water content to be about 13-14. In order to reach that value corn must undertake the drying process. Generally the drying process in Gorontalo still uses conventional drying under the sun. Moreover this process has some weaknesses such as it influenced by season it needs much time for drying many workers and wide place. One of the drying methods which have been developed is drying chamber supported by solar collector for concentrating the heat from the sun. The solar collector used in this research was hybrid solar collector with v-groove absorber. The angle of collector was varied from 900 750 600 450 300. On top of the drying chamber an exhaust was placed. Prior to the test the water content of corn was 207 by using conventional drying for a day the water content decreased until 18. Meanwhile by using this dryer with collectors angle of 450 and exhaust was set on the content of water can be decreased until 1237 with the rate of evaporation Qe 275801 watt. Qloss can be reduced by using 1 layer of styrofoam with up to 5cm thickness while the addition of styrofoam outside the drying chamber is not able to reduce Qloss significantly.
