THE EFFECT OF LOAD INCREMENT RATIO LOADING PERIOD AND PRELOADING ON THE COMPRESSION BEHAVIOUR OF FIBROUS PEAT

ABSTRAK

Tanah gambut adalah suatu tanah dengan kadar air yang sangat tinggi kompresibilitas tinggi dan daya dukung rendah. Perilaku pemampatan tanah gambut juga berbeda dengan tanah lempung biasa terutama untuk gambut berserat tanah gambut dengan kandungan serat 20. Disamping itu tanah gambut pada daerah tropis berbeda dengan di daerah beriklim dingin dimana bahan organik pembentuk serat berbeda. Karena alasan tersebut diatas maka dalam penelitian ini ingin diketahui bagaimana perilaku pemampatan tanah gambut berserat di Indonesia. Untuk itu perlu dikaji pengaruh rasio beban tahapan Load Increment Ratio LIR periode pembebanan dan pemberian preloading terhadap perilaku pemampatan. Untuk menjawab tujuan tersebut telah dilakukan serangkaian test konsolidasi terhadap 12 buah sampel tanah gambut tak terganggu yang diambil dari lokasi Pusat Riset Tanah Gambut Tropis milik Pemda Tingkat I Riau dan BPPT didesa Pekahtua Riau. 6enam sampel ditest tanpa preloading dan sisanya ditest dengan preloaading. Dari enam sampel yang pertama 3tiga sampel ditest dengan periode pembebanan 24 jam LIR 12 dan 3 dan 3tiga sampel lainya ditest dengan periode 48 jam. Sedang 6enam buah sampel yang terakhir ditest dengan preloading 1 tahap 3 sampel dan 2 tahap 3 sampel rasio beban tahapan yang dipilih adalah 1 3 dan 15. Dari hasil test dan pcmbahasan yang telah dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa kandungan serat kasar mempengaruhi perilaku pemampatan tanah gambut terutama pada beban kecil 04 kgcm2 komponen pemampatan tersier dan virgin curve tidak dijumpai serta pemampatan primer berlangsung sangat cepat. Rasio beban tahapan LIR memberikan pengaruh yang cukup besar terhadap kurva e vs log t namun unntuk beban kecil masih sangat dipengaruhi oleh kandungan serat kasar sedang bentuk kurva e vs log cr tidak banyak dipengaruhi oleh LIR. Periode pembebanan tidak begitu berpengaruh terhadap bentuk kurva e vs log t pengaruh yang ada hanya pada regangan total yang terjadi dimana untuk periode pembebanan 48 jam regangan totalnya lebih besar namun bentuk kurva e vs log c dipengaruhi oleh periode pembebanan meskipun pada taraf pembebanan yang relatif kecil masih dipengaruhi kondisi awal sampel dan kandungan serat kasar. Preloading mempengaruhi perilaku pemampatan tanah gambut baik terhadap kurva e vs log t maupun terhadap kurva e vs log sedang cara pemberian preloading tidak mempengaruhi bentuk kurva pemampatan tanah gambut berserat.


ABSTRACT

Peat is a soil with very high water content compressible and low bearing capacity. The compression behaviour of peat is quite different compared to that of clay soil especially for fibrous peat peat with fibre content more than 20. In addition peat in tropical region can be different with that in cold region due to the organic matters difference. Based on the reasons mention above the research carried out herein is pointed out to study the compression behaviour of Indonesian fibrous peat. For this purpose it is important to see the effect of load increment ratio LIR loading period and preloading on the compression behaviour of fibrous peat. In order to achieve the research objective a series of consolidation tests were performed on 12 peat samples taken from Riau Tropical Peat Research Center at Pekantua Riau. Six samples were tested withhout preloading and the rest was with preloading. The first six samples were tested with different loading period 24 hours and 48 hours the load increment ratio chosen was 12 and 3. The last six samples were preloaded in 1 step 3 samples and 2 step 3 samples the load increment ratio chosen was 13 and 15. The results of the study show that coarse fibre has importance influence on the compression behaviour of fibrous peat especially under small load 04 kgcm2 a tertiary compression of e Vs log t curve and a virgin curve of e vs log c curve are not found. Besides the primary compression take place in short period of time about 10 minutes. The effect of load increment ratio LIR to the e vs log t curve is very clear but not under a small load in which coarse fibre content has more influence to the curve than LIR. The e vs log cr curve is not affected by the LIR chosen. The loading period does not affect the e vs log t except the total strain loading period of 48 hours gives large strain than that of 24 hours. The e vs log curve however is influenced by the loading period although coarse fibre content and initial void ratio are still more important during under a small load. Preloading has a significant influence to the compression behaviour of fibrour peat the loading step of preloading however does not affect the compression curve of the fibrous peat.
