Sentral ATM sebagai elemen jaringan menentukan performansi Jaringan ATM. Untuk menggelar jaringan yang memenuhi kriteria QOS dan biaya yang relatif murah dapat menggunakan Sentral ATM Virtual. Disain sentral ini, pada PC Pentium 650 MHZ mampu memberikan nilai throughput yang relatif cukup besar dan mampu memproses trafik sesuai dengan QOS yang disyaratkan. Sentral ATM Virtual yang diimplementasikan pada jaringan testbed merupakan sarana yang memadai untuk melakukan kajian penggelaran jaringan ATM pada skala korporat maupun publik. Hasil dari penelitian yang akan dilakukan ini dapat digunakan sebagai acuan penggelaran Jaringan ATM, perbaikan perencanaan Sentral ATM dan penelitian-penelitian selanjutnya.

Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switch is network element that determines performance ATM System. Deploying ATM system and fulfilling Quality of Service (QOS) with relative low cost can be realized by Virtual Switch ATM. This switch design in the PC Pentium II 650 MHZ is be able to provide relative sufficient throughput and is capable of processing traffic with QOS requirements. Implementation of Virtual Switch ATM in the network simulation is suitable media of observation for deploying ATM system in the private and public scale. The result of this observation would contribute valuable basic knowledge for the next activity.
