Kemacetan merupakan permasalahan umum yang dialami di setiap kota yang sedang berkembang, termasuk Banjarmasin. Hal ini merupakan dampak dari meningkatnya kegiatan ekonomi yang dilakukan oleh masyarakat, yang berarti juga meningkatkan arus transportasi di dalam kota, baik yang menggunakan angkutan pribadi maupun angkutan umum. Pada kenyataannya prasarana transportasi yang tersedia belum mampu untuk memberikan pelayanan yang optimal. Oleh karenanya perlu diupayakan pemilihan moda angkutan yang berimbang antara angkutan pribadi maupun angkutan umum. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui bagaimana pola distribusi pemakaian moda, variabel-variabel apa saja yang mempengaruhi orang untuk memilih moda angkutan. Kemudian juga untuk mengetahui model Pemilihan Moda Tipe I atau Tipe II yang dapat mewakili model pemilihan moda di kota Banjarmasin. Untuk mendapatkan hal-hal yang diharapkan diatas, penulis melakukan penelitian dengan menggunakan metode survei wawancara rumah tangga terhadap 750 orang pada 50 (lima puluh) kelurahan yang ada di kota Banjarmasin. Wawancara dilakukan, antara lain untuk menanyakan perjalanan yang dilakukan sehari sebelumnya beserta atribut perjalanan yang penting. Berdasarkan hasil analisa regresi linear terhadap semua moda yang dipilih, diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa Model Bangkitan dan Pemilihan Moda (Model Pemilihan Moda Tipe I) dapat mewakili model pemilihan moda untuk kota Banjarmasin, hal ini ditunjukkan dengan nilai Koefisien Determinasi (R2) untuk semua moda mendekati nilai 1 (satu). Sedangkan Model Pemilihan Moda Tipe II, baik yang dilakukan secara langsung maupun bertahap tidak dapat mewakili model pemilihan moda untuk kota Banjarmasin (Nilai R2 < 0,5). Model terbaik adalah sebagai berikut: Bmobil = 0,5080 + 1,2616 KmobiI, Bspdmtr = 1,8443 + 1,2075 Kspdmtr,; Bangkot = 0,0307 + 0,0720 (Pop - Tot K); dan Bojek = -0,3808 + 0,0787 (Pop - Tot K), dimana B = Bangkitan Perjalanan, K = Kepemilikan kendaraan, dan Pop = Populasi.

Traffic jam on the road is common for developing cities, including Banjarmasin. The increasing of economic activities cause an augmentation of traffic volume in the city, both for private and public mode. In general the existing infrastructure is not enough to carry the traffic augmentation. Therefore, a better balance of private and public utilization is needed. The research objective is to know the distribution pattern of different transport mode, and the influencing factors for modal choice. Furthermore, Modal Split Model will be built. The research is limited only for Type I and Type II Modal Split Model only. In order to obtain the research objectives, a Household Interview Survey of 750 samples collected at 50 different kelurahan was conducted. The interview is designated mainly to collect data on trips and trips characteristics. Multiple regression analysis have been done, the analysis result shows that Type I Modal Split Model is more appropriate for Banjarmasin. This is indicated by the R2 values, which all are practically close to 1. The Type II Modal Split Model has been developed too. The analysis shown that this model is not appropriate for Banjarmasin. This is indicated a very low R2 values, all are practically less than 0,5. The best models are: Bmobil = 0,5080 + 1,2616 Kmobil B^* = 1,8443 + 1,2075 K^* Bangkot = 0,0307 + 0,0720 (Pop - Tot K); dan Bojek = -0,3808 + 0,0787 (Pop - Tot K), where B = Trip Production for each mode, K = Vehicle Ownership for each mode, and Pop = Population.
