ABSTRAK

Laut Arafura merupakan daerah pusat terjadinya fenomena El Nino Southern Oscilation ENSO di Indonesia. Pengkajian terhadap senyawa penanda biologi atau biomarka pada sedimen Laut Arafura core MD05-2967 kedalaman sedimen 300 cm dan 1500 cm koordinat 008o 48105 oS 132o 2637 oE dilakukan untuk merekonstruksi lingkungan purbanya. Pemisahan ekstrak organik total sedimen Laut Arafura dilakukan melalui fraksinasi berdasarkan perbedaan kepolarannya menggunakan kromatografi kolom dan kromatografi lapis tipis KLT. Identifikasi senyawa biomarka dilakukan dengan Kromatografi Gas Spektrometri Massa KG-SM. Hasil analisa KG-SM pada masing-masing fraksi menemukan beberapa senyawa biomarka diantaranya adalah dari fraksi hidrokarbon alifatik berupa n-alkana rantai lurus dengan jumlah atom C20 C20 C33 fraksi hidrokarbon aromatik berupa senyawa 236 trimetilarilisoprenoid alkil benzena dan floranten fraksi keton berupa metil keton C17 dan hopan C27 hopanon serta dari fraksi asam berupa asam lemak n-C15 n-C16 dan n-C18. Diketahui bahwa pengendapan bahan-bahan organik yang terdapat dalam sedimen Laut Arafura berasal dari darat sebagai kontribusi dari tumbuhan tingkat tinggi dan bakteri serta dari laut sebagai kontribusi dari fitoplankton alga dan bakteri. Lingkungan pengendapannya bersifat reduktif dan periode pengendapannya terjadi sejak masa sebelum Pleistocen 2 juta tahun.


ABSTRACT

Arafura sea is the center area of El Nino Southern Oscilation ENSO phenomenon in Indonesia. Study of biomarker on the sediment of Arafura Sea core MD05-2967 with sediment depth 300 cm and 1500 cm and coordinate 008o 48105 oS 132o 2637 oE is performed to reconstruct the paleoenvironment. Fractionation of organic extract using column chromatography and thin layer chromatography based the polarity in solvent then analyzed of biomarker by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy GC-MS. The result of GC-MS analysis for the aliphatic hydrocarbon fraction consisted n-alkanes C20-C33. The aromatic hydrocarbon are 236 trimetilarilisoprenoid alkyl benzene and fluoranthene. Ketone fraction consisted C17 methyl ketone and hopane C27 hopanon and the acid fraction are methyl esther n-C15 n-C16 and n-C18. The precipitation of organic matter in Arafura Sea is predominantly of terrigenous and marine sources which were derived from leaf waxes of higher land plants and transported to the sea by fresh water. The marine sources were from algae and bacteria. The precipitation environment condition is reductif and the period of precipitation exist before Pleistocene epoch 2 million years.
