PT. Giri Mulya Jatim adalah perusahaan yang memproduksi kapur aktif (CaO) untuk industri. Perusahaan menghadapi kendala pada kualitas CaO yang dihasilkan dari proses pembakaran batu kapur (CaCO3), berupa cacat mayor berupa batu curing sebesar 5% dan defect minor yang merupakan jenis cacat kritis dan terdiri dari kadar persentase CaO dibawah standar sebesar 45.6%, Insuluble Meter (28.4%) dan ukuran butir (26%). Penelitian ini mengaplikasikan pendekatan six sigma dengan satu siklus DMAIC. Faktor yang dominan yang teridentifikasi sebagai penyebab ketidaksesuaian persentase kadar CaO adalah jenis bahan bakar, ukuran batu kapur dan jenis batu kapur. Dari hasil eksperiment Taguchi, faktor yang berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap respon persentase kadar CaO adalah jenis bahan bakar kayu dan batu bara (C2) dengan kontribusi 37.67%, ukuran batu kapur dengan ukuran kecil (B1) dengan kontribusi 26.49%, interaksi antara jenis batu kapur dengan ukuran batu kapur (A2B1) dengan kontribusi 13.04% serta interaksi antara jenis batu kapur dan jenis bahan bakar (A2C2) dengan kontribusi 13.24%. Terjadi perubahan nilai DPMO dan level sigma antara kondisi sebelum penelitian dan sesudah tahap improve. DPMO naik dari 37.133 menjadi 41.667. Sedangkan level sigma turun dari 3,3 menjadi 3,2. Cleaner production pada proses pembakaran batu kapur masih rendah karena efisiensi yang rendah dengan rugi-rugi berupa aliran panas yang terbuang percuma. Proses pembakaran batu kapur memberikan dampak pada tumbuhan jagung berupa spot bewarna putih kekuningan secara morfologis dan kerusakan pada stomata secara anatomis.

PT. Giri Mulya Jatim is a company which produces quicklime (CaO) for industrial. This company faces a problem in the quality of CaO which is produced by limestone combustion process (CaCO3) in a form of 5% curing stone as major handicap and minor defect as critical handicap. The defect minor is in form of CaO degree of percentage which is below 45.6%; Insoluble meter (28.4%) and the size of particle (26%). This research applies six sigma approach and uses DMAIC cycle. The dominant factor which can be identified as the cause of CaO percentage instability is the type of fuel, size and type of limestone. Based on Taguchi experiment, factor which is significantly influenced the respond of CaO degree of percentage are 37.67% from the type of firewood and coal (C2), 26.49% from the size of limestone – the small one (B1), 13.04% from the type and size of limestone (A2B1) and 13.24% from the interaction between type of limestone and type of fuel (A2C2). This reaction changes the value of DPMO and sigma level before the experiment and after improve phase. The DPMO increases from 37.133 to 41.667, while the sigma level decreases from 3.3 to 3.2. The cleaner production in limestone combustion is still low. It is because the low efficiency which have several disadvantages. It is the lost of heat stream for nothing. The limestone combustion process has an impact at maize plant in form of yellow white spot – morphologically and damage at stomata – anatomically.
