ABSTRAK

Jumlah besar abu layang yang dihasilkan dari pembakaran batubara pada pembangkit listrik setiap tahunnya merupakan sumber potensial terjadinya pencemaran sehingga mendorong untuk mengkonversi abu layang menjadi zeolit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh suhu hidrotermal awal 100C 120C 150C dan 180C terhadap pembentukan zeolit. Sebelum perlakuan suhu hidrotermal awal sekitar 18 gram abu layang diaduk dalam 150 mL larutan KOH 3 M selama 24 jam untuk tiap suhu hidrotermal awal selama 35 jam dilanjutkan dengan kristalisasi pada suhu 100C selama 6 24 48 dan 96 jam. Filtrat dianalisis dengan teknik Spektroskopi Serapan Atom SSA untuk mengetahui kelarutan Si dan Al selama proses sintesis. Padatan hasil sintesis dikarakterisasi dengan teknik XRD SEM dan kapasitas tukar kation KTK. Reaksi pertukaran kation berperan penting dalam penentuan kualitas zeolit yang baik bagi lingkungan. Suhu hidrotermal awal berpengaruh pada jenis zeolit yang dihasilkan. Jenis zeolit yang diperoleh yaitu zeolit K-G K-khabasit zeolit K-F K-edingtonit dan zeolit K-phillipsit. KTK meningkat dari 4.460 mek100 g menjadi 12.964 mek100 g yang mengindikasikan zeolit dapat diterapkan dalam teknologi lingkungan sebagai slow release fertilizer SRF.


ABSTRACT

A large amount of fly ash generated every year from coal combustion in thermal power plants has become a potential source of pollution. There has been continuous effort to overcome the problem by converting it into usefull products such as zeolitic materials. This research aimed to study the effects of the initial hydrothermal temperatures of 100C 120C 150C and 180C on the formation of zeolites. Prior to the each initial hydrothermal treatment for 3.5 hours approximately 18 grams fly ash were stirred for 24 hours in 150 mL 3M KOH solution followed by crystallization at 100C for 6 24 48 and 96 hours. The filtrates were analysed using atomic absorption spectroscopy AAS method to determine Si and Al concentrations during synthesis process. Products were characterized by XRD SEM and the cation exchange capacity CEC. Cation exchange reactions played as an important role in determining of the zeolitized fly ash environmental quality. By varying the initial hydrothermal temperature conditions different types of zeolite were produced e.g. zeolite K-G Kchabazite zeolite K-F K-edingtonite and zeolite K-phillipsite. CEC has been increased from 4460 meq100 g up to 12964 meq100 g which indicates that the zeolite product can be applied in environmental technology as a slow release fertilizer SRF.
