The Application of Bio-Copolymer -Karrageenan-g-PMMA in Quasi Solid State Dye Sensitized Solar Cell QS-DSSC

In this research project a quasi solid state Dye Sensitized Solar Cell was synthesized. -carrageenan-g-PMMA copolymer has been synthesized by copolymerizing -carrageenan with methyl methacrylate MMA in aqueous. The copolymerization was carried out under microwave irradiation in the presence of a water-soluble initiator potassium persulphate KPS. Then a gel electrolyte was prepared by adding KI and I2 to -Carrageenan-g-PMMA system. The influence of using this gel electrolyte on photoelectronic performance of quasi-solid state dye-sensitized solar cell QS-DSSC were discussed. It was found that the gel electrolyte was not a good candidate gel electrolyte matrix for QS-DSSCs. Based on a gel electrolyte a light-to-electricity conversion efficiency of 02 for QS-DSSC was achieved under AM 1.5 sun solar light.
