PEMBUATAN ETANOL MENGGUNAKAN ZYMOMONAS MOBILIS DENGAN MEMANFAATKAN SARI BUAH PEPAYA SEBAGAI SUBSTRAT

ETHANOL PRODUCTION USING Zymomonas mobilis WHICH IS PRODUCED FROM PAPAYAS ESSENCE AS SUBTRAT

ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan etanol dari buah pepaya melalui fermentasi. Mikroorganisme yang digunakan adalah Zymomonas mobilis. Mikroorganime ini merupakan bakteri yang dapat mengubah glukosa fruktosa dan sukrosa menjadi etanol. Bakteri ini memiliki beberapa kelebihan dibanding dengan Sacharomyces cerevisiae yang selama ini banyak digunakan. Selama proses fermentasi berlangsung dilakukan pengambilan sampel pada interval waktu 4 jam sekali selama 24 jam untuk dianalisa kadar etanol dan biomassanya. Analisa kadar etanol diuji dengan menggunakan GC dan konsentrasi biomassa diuji dengan menggunakan metode Turbidimetri. Selain buah pepaya dalam penelitian ini digunakan pula glukosa sebagai kontrol. Dari hasil penelitian dengan menggunakan sari buah pepaya tanpa nutrisi tambahan yeast extract MgSO4.7H2O NH42.SO4 dan KH2PO4 mendapatkan yield etanol sebanyak 7432 dibanding teori. Pada fermentasi menggunakan sari buah pepaya dengan nutrisi tambahan mendapatkan yield etanol sebesar 8236 dibanding teori. Berdasar hasil penelitian ini berarti pepaya memiliki potensi untuk dikembangkan sebagai substrat dalam pembuatan etanol .


ABSTRACT

The aim of this research is to get ethanol thought the fermentation of papaya. Their Microorganism which used is Zymomonas mobilis. It is a kind of bacterial which able to change glucose fructose and sucrose to be ethanol. Compared with Sacharomyces cerevisiae microorganism which popularly used to Zymomonas mobilis has some advances. During the fermentation process researcher took sample in interval 4 hours for 24 hours to analyze ethanol level. Analyzing ethanol level was using GC and biomass concentrate. Beside papaya the research also used glucose as control variable. The result of the research papayas essence without nutrient added yeast extract MgSO4.7H2O NH42.SO4 dan KH2PO4 got yield ethanol about 7432 from theory. The research of papayas essence with nutrient added got yield etanol abaout 8236 from theory. From the result there is conclusion that papaya has potential to be develop as substrate in ethanol production.
