COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ANALYTICAL METHODS TO DETERMINE THE SAFETY MARGINS OF SPECIAL MOMENT-RESISTING REINFORCED CONCRETE FRAMES

ABSTRAK

Telah terjadi keruntuhan pada bangunan baik keruntuhan sebagian maupun keruntuhan secara total antara lain di Kocaeli Turki tahun 1999 dan di Bhuj India tahun 2001. Keruntuhan terjadi pada beberapa struktur lama yang dirancang menggunakan tata cata perancangan yang saat ini dianggap tidak mencukupi. Penyebab lain adalah perancangan dan pelaksanaan konstruksi yang buruk. Namun beberapa dari keruntuhan yang terjadi menunjukkan bahwa bangunan telah dirancang berdasarkan prinsip perancangan gempa yang berlaku saat ini. Keruntuhan yang terjadi tersebut menimbulkan suatu pertanyaan mengenai persyaratan gempa dan tata cara yang berlaku saat ini apakah telah memadai untuk mencegah terjadinya keruntuhan. Berdasarkan hal tersebut dilakukan suatu studi analisis perbandingan model struktur dengan konsep Kolom Kuat Balok Lemah dengan memberikan gaya gempa berdasarkan analisis statis ekuivalen dinamis dan pushover. Safety margin dievaluasi sebagai parameter sisa kekuatan yang ada pada struktur berdasarkan analisis dinamis pada kinerja struktur. Model struktur dianalisis sebagai Sistem Rangka Pemikul Momen Khusus yang direncanakan sesuai SNI 03-1726-2002 ATC-40 dan FEMA-273. Model dianalisis menggunakan program SAP2000 dalam bentuk 3D dengan mempertimbangkan efek pengaruh P-D. Hasil studi menunjukkan adanya penyimpangan nilai base force gempa pada struktur 12 lantai dimana nilai base reaction hasil analisis statis ekuivalen telah melebihi batasan kinerja struktur. Perubahan batasan kinerja juga terjadi pada batas tahap Collapse Prevention CP pada struktur 12 lantai berdasarkan analisis statis ekuivalen. Selain itu nilai safety margin dibawah 0 menunjukkan bahwa struktur telah mengalami keruntuhan lebih tahap lebih awal. Namun penyimpangan nilai safety margin tidak terjadi pada analisis dinamis dengan nilai safety margin berada pada batas aman yaitu diatas 50. Berdasarkan hal tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa bahwa pada struktur 10 lantai atau lebih perencanaan berdasarkan analisis statis ekuivalen adalah tidak aman sehingga disarankan untuk lebih menggunakan analisis dinamis.


ABSTRACT

Buildings have partially or totally collapse during the earthquake in Kocaeli Turkey in 1999 and in Bhuj India in 2001. Many of these collapse occurred in older buildings designed with nowadays considered inadequate design standards. Others have been attributed to construction practices which undoubtedly was the case in many of them. But some of the collapses indicated that buildings have been designed based on modern seismic design principles. The aforementioned collapse raised many questions regarding to the adequacy of current seismic design procedures to prevent a partial or total collapse. Based on this problem a comparative analysis study is conducted in structure models using the strong column weak beam design by applying the seismic forces in accordance with the static equivalent pushover and dynamic analyses. The safety margins are evaluated as a representative parameter for the remaining capacities of the structures by using the dynamic analysis. The structural models are analyzed as Special Moment Resisting Frame designed in accordance with SNI 03-1726-2002 ATC-40 and FEMA-273. The analyses were carried out using SAP2000 in 3D models. The effect of P-D is also accounted for in the analyses. The results of this study show considerable deviations on the base reactions of the 12-storey building. The base reactions obtained from the static equivalent analyses is in excess of the structural performance limits. The change of the performance limit in the collapse prevention stage occurs in the 12-storey building when static equivalent analysis is used. The safety margin is less than zero percent meaning that the structure is collapse in earlier level. However for the dynamic analysis it indicates there is no deviation on the safety margin. The value is greater than 50 percent. This value indicates that the corresponding structure is in the safe side. It could be concluded that for 10-storey buildings of higher it is suggested to use the dynamic analysis rather than the static equivalent method.
