MODELLING AND SIMULATION OF FLUID FLOW PROFILE IN GAS-LIQUID MIXING INDUCED BY DOUBLE IMPELLER

ABSTRAK

Pencampuran antara dua fase gas-liquida dalam tangki berpengaduk tergantung pada impeller yang digunakan serta kondisi lainnya dalam tangki untuk mendapatkan distribusi fluida yang efektif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mempelajari pencampuran sistem gas-liquida dengan double impeller ditinjau dari aspek hidrodinamika khususnya pola alir fluida dan dispersi gas untuk mengetahui mekanisme pencampuran menggunakan software Fluent 6.1.18.. Sistem yang dipelajari adalah tangki silindris yang berdasar datar menggunakan double impeller dengan konfigurasi Concave Disc-6 - Concave Disc-6 CD-CD . Geometri dan grid dilakukan dengan software Gambit 2.1.6. Penyelesaian model matematika tersebut dengan Metode Volume Hingga dan teknik pendeskritannya dengan teknik diskretisasi Quadratic Upwind Interpolation Confective Kinematics QUICK serta simulasi dengan Matlab 7. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pola alir liquida radialradial yang mengakibatkan aliran paralel pada konfigurasi CD-CD. Untuk kondisi tanpa gas pola alir fluida mempunyai kecepatan yang lebih kecil dibandingkan dengan kondisi dengan gas untuk kondisi volume liquid yang lebih besar menghasilkan kecepatan alir fluida lebih besar dan untuk kondisi tinggi impeller berbeda mengakibatkan kecepatan impeller kedua turun.


ABSTRACT

Mixing between two phases gas-liquid in an agitated tank depends on impeller used and also other conditions in the tank to get an effective fluid distribution. The purpose of this research is to study mixing of gas-liquid system with double impeller viewed from hydrodynamic aspect especially fluid flow pattern and gas dispersion to know mixing mechanism using Software of Fluent 6.1.18. System studied was a flat bottomed cylindrical tank used double impeller with configurations of Concave Disc-6 - Concave Disc-6 CD-CD. Geometry and grid were done by Gambit 2.1.6 software. Finished mathematics model by Finite Volume Methode and discrit technique by Quadratic Upwind Interpolation Confective KinematicsQUICK and simulation by MATLAB 7. The research results showed that radial-radial liquid flow pattern resulted in parallel flow for CD-CD configuration. For condition without gas flow patern have velocity more than less with flowing gases for liquid volume condition lager result velocity of fluid flow faster and for high impeller condition different velocity of impeller second drop
