[ Description ]

Benda kerja slender bar misalnya yang memiliki rasio panjang-diameter (L/D) 18, seperti lead screw, broaching cutter dan lain-lain memiliki tingkat kekakuan yang rendah sehingga mudah bergetar, oleh sebab itu proses bubut bendakerja tersebut disarankan menggunakan follower rest atau steady rest agar kekakuannya dapat ditingkatkan. Kemampuan redaman follower rest mengandalkan jenis material follower rest itu sendiri sehingga untuk meningkatkan kemampuan redaman perlu dilakukan modefikasi terhadap follower rest. Langkah awal yang dilakukan adalah membuat sistem getaran dua derajat kebebasan yang mewakili sistem pencekaman slender bar pada mesin bubut. Selanjutnya melakukan simulasi dengan parameter tertentu hingga amplitudo getaran frekuensi pribadi sistem dapat diturunkan. Frekuensi pribadi didapatkan dengan melakukan uji eksitasi. Analisa dilakukan dengan bantuan perangkat lunak MathCad. Selanjutnya Modefikasi follower rest dilakukan dengan menambah seismic damper yaitu dengan memberikan massa tambahan tertentu dan pegas dengan nilai parameter seperti yang ditentukan dalam analisa. Selanjutnya dilakukan uji eksitasi untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan seismic damper dan dilakukan uji pemotongan dengan proses bubut untuk mendapatkan batas stabilitas (chatter). Dimensi bendakerja slender bar yang digunakan adalah 35x800 pada sistem pencekaman chuck-center. Putaran mesin yang digunakan 425 rpm dan feeding sebesar 0,06 mm/putaran. Pahat yang digunakan adalah pahat insert jenis carbide dengan sudut r=45O. Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa pada proses bubut tanpa menggunakan follower rest, chatter terjadi pada kedalaman pemotongan 1,00 mm dengan tinggi amplitudo 10,713 m/s2. Sedangkan saat menggunakan follower rest asli chatter terjadi pada kedalaman pemotongan 1,50 mm dengan tinggi amplitudo 1,292 m/s2. Sistem redaman yang dikembangkan dengan memberikan sistem massa-pegas pada bagian follower rest mampu meningkatkan kedalaman pemotongan hingga 1,75 mm dan frekuensi chatter bergeser kearah frekuensi pribadi kedua.

Slender bar workpieces with length-diameter ratio (L/D) 18, such lead screw, broaching cutter, etc., have a low stiffness so that can vibrate easily, and therefore the lathe process of this workpiece is recommended to use follower rest or steady rest, so that its stiffness can be improved. Damping ability of follower rest relies on its material, so as to improve the damping ability; we have to modify the follower rest. The initial step is to create two degrees of freedom vibration system that represent the clamping system of slender bar on a lathe machine. Next step is to make simulation with specific parameters so that the vibration amplitude of natural frequency of the system can be derived. Natural frequency was obtained by performing the excitation test. Analysis was conducted by Mathcad software. The next follower rest modification is adding a seismic damper, by provide a specific additional mass and spring with the parameter value that was determined in the previous analysis. Excitation test is conducted to determine the effect of the use of seismic dampers and turning test is conducted to obtain the stability limit (chatter). Slender bar workpiece has 35x800 dimensions in chuck-center clamping system, with 425 rpm of spindle speed and 0.06 mm/rotation of feeding. Cutting tool used is insert type of carbide with r=45O. The experimental results show that in the turningprocess without using a lathe follower rest, chatter occurs at 1.00 mm of depth of cut, with level of amplitude = 10.713 m/s2. Meanwhile, by using the genuine follower rest, chatter occurs at 1.50 mm of depth of cut with level of amplitude = 1.292 m/s2. Damping system which was developed by giving the mass-spring system on the follower rest is able to increase the depth of cut up to 1.75 mm, and the chatter frequency is shifted towards the second natural frequency.
