ABSTRAK

Jaringan wireless modern mampu memberikan layanan multimedia yaitu data suara dan video dengan baik. WLAN model infrastruktur saat ini banyak digunakan sebagai infrastruktur untuk memberikan layanan multimedia dimana Access Point AP sebagai pengontrol akses jaringan bagi pengguna bergerak atau mobile user. Trafik multimedia yang heterogen dan mobilitas pengguna menjadi faktor yang mempengaruhi kualitas layanan multimedia yang diberikan. Selain dua faktor tersebut mekanisme DCF Distributed Coordination Function yang ada pada protokol MAC 802.11 menjadi tantangan untuk bisa menjaga performansi QoS VoIP over WLAN VoWLAN terutama pada parameter latency dan paket hilang. Penelitian ini menggunakan Network Simulator 2 NS-2 sebagai environment untuk mensimulasikan VoWLAN dan melakukan pengukuran QoS VoIP terhadap faktor trafik heterogen dan mobilitas pengguna. Trafik heterogen dibangkitkan oleh sumber yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah VoIP dan FTP sedangkan mobilitas pengguna voip dilakukan dengan model deterministic. Pengujian dilakukan mulai dari beban trafik heterogen rendah kemudian meningkat demikian juga untuk mobilitas dari dekat sumber kemudian menjauh dari sumber. Model infrastruktur yang didesain pada simulasi terdiri dari satu AP node dua BE Best Effort node sebagai pembangkit paket FTP serta dua puluh VoIP node atau 10 pasang percakapan. Hasil pengukuran QoS didapatkan besarnya latency rata-rata untuk semua komunikasi voip yang terjadi dalam BSS setelah adanya paket FTP berada dalam range 723 844 ms dan untuk paket hilang 012 622 . Metode peningkatan QoS VoWLAN dilakukan dengan mengatur nilai parameter protokol MAC 802.11 dan prioritas yang diberikan kepada trafik VoIP lebih tinggi daripada trafik BE. Metode ini berhasil memberikan nilai QoS yang lebih baik yaitu nilai paket hilang mulai dari 0 488 yang masih dibawah batas normal 5.


ABSTRACT

Modern wireless network is capable of delivering multiple multimedia services namely data voice and video as well. However the majority of existing WLANs are setup in infrastructure mode where mobile station access the multimedia services through an AP which coordinates all traffic to and from the WLAN. Heterogeneous multimedia traffic and user mobility become factor that affect the quality of services provided. In addition to the two factors above where the mechanism of DCF Distributed Coordination Function on MAC 802.11 can be challenge to maintain QoS performance of VoIP over WLAN VoWLAN mainly on QoS parameters both latency and packet loss. This tesis research using Network Simulator 2 NS2 as environmet to simulating VoWLAN and measuring QoS VoIP on heterogenous traffic and user mobility factor. Heterogenous traffic is generated by the source and in this research consist two voip and ftp traffic. Whereas the model of user mobilty is deterministic from one position to another determined position by fixed velocity. Testing simulation from lower load of heterogenous traffic to high load traffic likewise user mobility is testing destination node from near to far distance from traffic source. Topology VoWLAN in this infrastucture model consist of one AP 2 BE node as one peer ftp traffic communication and upto 20 voip node as 10 peer voip traffic communication. QoS measurement result in this research obtained average latency for heterogenous traffic is 723 844 ms and for packet loss 012 622 . The method to enhancement QoS VoWLAN with setting parameter on 802.11 mac protocol can raduce packet loss efectively. The value of CWmin as parameter on 802.11 mac protocol given to voip node and BE node with different value the lowest one will have higher prirority than the other. Of course given lowest value to voip node will give priority traffic to access medium quickly than ftp traffic when simultaneously access the medium or when collision occur. This method succeeded in providing a better QoS value packet lost form 0 488 which is still below the normal limit 5.
