Jenis-jenis pengujian kapal pada laboratorium hidrodinamika meliputi pengujian ship powering, seakeeping, dan manoeuvering. Sebagai laboratorium pengujian model kapal, Laboratorium Hidrodinamika Indonesia belum bisa melakukan pengujian seakeeping secara lengkap, karena belum tersedianya alat pengukuran gerakan model kapal yang mampu melakukan pengukuran enam derajat kebebasan secara simultan. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut telah dirancang dan dibuat suatu sistem dan alat pengukur gerakan model kapal skala laboratorium dalam pengujian seakeeping yang dapat juga dipakai untuk mengukur gaya tahanan model kapal pada kondisi permukaan air yang bergelombang. Metoda validasi rancangan sistem pengukuran gerakan model kapal ini adalah dengan melakukan pengujian terhadap sebuah model kapal jenis Bulk Carrier yang memiliki ukuran panjang 2,000 m, lebar 0,333 m, tinggi 0,167 m, dan sarat air 0,107 m. Hasil pengujian berupa respon gerakan (RAO) dibandingkan dengan hasil perhitungan numerik program komputer Shipmo dan Seakeeper. Dari penelitian ini diperoleh sebuah alat yang dapat mengukur gerakan model kapal sampai dengan lima derajat kebebasan saja yang kehandalan dan ketelitian pengukurannya terlihat dari adanya kesesuaian kurva respon gerakan antara pengukuran dengan perhitungan numerik.

Various type of shipmodel testing in hydrodynamic laboratory covers the examination of ship powering, seakeeping, and manoeuvering. As a ship model testing laboratory, Indonesia Hydrodynamics Laboratory can not conduct the seakeeping examination completely due to no ship model motion measurement apparatus available which is capable to measure six degree of freedom simultaneously. To overcome these problem it had been designed and built a motion measurement apparatus for ship model on laboratory scale for seakeeping examination and resistance force in the wavy water surface condition. Validation method for ship model motion measurement system was carry out by examining on a ship model of Bulk Carrier type with length of 2,000 m, breadth 0,333 m, depth 0,167 m, and draught 0,107 m. Its results which in respon of motion (RAO) compared to the result of numerical calculation on computer program Shipmo and Seakeeper. From this research it had been obtained a ship model motion measuring apparatus with five degree of freedom only that its precise and reliable measurements could be seen from the existence of motion respon curve fitting closed to the numerical calculation.
