EFFECT OF POSITION AND ORIENTATION OF OPENINGS FOR THE NATURAL VENTILATION EFFECTIVENESS IN THE MID-RISE OFFICE BUILDING WITH DOUBLE SKIN FACADE

ABSTRAK

Penerapan teknologi fasad selubung ganda pada bangunan perkantoran bertingkat dalam beberapa penelitian terdahulu telah terbukti menghasilkan efektivitas dalam penghawaan alami dengan menggunakan dua kombinasi mekanisme tekanan angin dan perbedaan temperatur stack effect. Pada saat tekanan angin berada pada kondisi tenang di iklim tropis lembab dimana kondisi ini sangat sering terjadi mekanisme stack effect diduga akan mampu berperan dalam mengkondisikan penghawaan ke dalam bangunan. Bangunan kantor kecil berlantai lima dengan fasad selubung ganda digunakan sebagai konfigurasi dasar bangunan. Di samping fasad selubung ganda komponen bukaan turut dihadirkan ke dalam bangunan. Kehadiran posisi bukaan dan variasi orientasi menjadi perhatian dalam kasus penelitian ini. Aliran udara pada bangunan dengan posisi dan orientasi bukaan yang divariasikan sebanyak 24 varian diuji menggunakan bantuan simulasi software CFD Computational Fluid Dynamic. Melalui simulasi CFD mekanisme stack effect dianalisis. Perbedaan temperatur kecepatan dan pola aliran udara diinvestigasi sebagai upaya mengeksplorasi efektivitas penghawaan alami. Pergantian udara air change per hour ACH dan kenyamanan termal dalam hal ini digunakan sebagai indikator efektivitas penghawaan alami bangunan. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa stack effect bekerja pada konfigurasi bangunan. Bagaimanapun kinerja kecepatan udara yang dihasilkan ditemukan sangat kecil yaitu mencapai 008612 mdt pada kondisi tertingginya. Kondisi ini sangat rendah dalam mendukung upaya kenyamanan termal. Di sisi lain pergantian udara juga ditemukan rendah 286 ACH di kondisi tertingginya dimana ketersediaan udara segar dalam ruang tidak tercukupi. Stack effect potensial ditunjukkan dengan perbedaan temperatur tertinggi antara ruang dan cerobong yaitu mencapai rentang 255C hingga 3559C. Diantara 24 varian permodelan bangunan stack effect paling potensial ditunjukkan Konfigurasi 3 dengan selubung ganda menghadap ke Barat 270 dimana bukaan inlet menghadap sisi Selatan.


ABSTRACT

Applications of double skin facade technology on office buildings in previous studies demonstrated its effectiveness in performing natural ventilation through combined effect of wind forced as well as stack effect mechanism. In case of calm period in warm-humid tropical climate which is very often occurred the stack effect mechanism is expected to serve ventilation in buildings. Five-story small office building with double-skin faade is used as base case. Except the double-layer glass faade installed in one faade the building is equipped by opening in the other side. The 24 variants are set concerning on different position of the double-layer glass opening and variation of orientation. Air flow in the building with position and orientation of openings varied 24 variants is tested using a CFD Computational Fluid Dynamic simulation software. Through CFD Computational Fluid Dynamic simulation the effect of the stack mechanism is analyzed. The temperature different air flow velocity and pattern are investigated in order to explore the effectiveness on natural ventilation. The results show that stack effect works in such building configuration. The air velocity produced is however very small 0.08612ms at most which is too low for supporting thermal comfort. The air change resulted in this mechanism is small 286 ACH at most which is also not sufficient in producing healthy indoor air. The highest temperature difference contributing the stack mechanism ranges from 2.55 C to 3.55 C. Among the 24 models the configuration 3 is the most potential one. The model is west-facing double-skin faade and has southside inlet opening.
