ANALYSIS OF MORPHOLOGY CHANGE OF PORONG RIVER ESTUARY DUE TO SEDIMENTATION OF LUMPUR SIDOARJO EAST JAVA
Author : LIYANI ( 4111205901 )
ABSTRACT
Mudflow national ecological disaster has occurred in Sidoarjo Indonesia known as Lusi Lumpur Sidoarjo on May 29 2006. Estimate volume of Lusi between 50.000-120.000 m3day.
Estuary is the mouth of the river that directly related to the sea which has function as a water expenditure. Accumulated sediment from the river will cause siltation in the estuary. Porong estuary located in Jabon district Sidoarjo regency East Java is the estuary of the River Porong derived from branching river. Due to disposal of Lusi to Porong river occurred large sediment transport toward Porong estuary.
In this study numerical hydrodynamic models is used using MIKE 21 software developed by DHI Water Environment to simulate current circulation patterns. Simulations is executed with tidal river discharge and wind as a generator. The result of simulation shows that in the span of the simulation the average speed of the current circulation is 0.3 ms. While the distribution pattern of sediment simulations results shows that sediment brought from river toward estuary is quite large. The maximum sediment concentration is 4.257 gm3 and the lowest sediment concentration is 0.219 gm3. The bed level change of estuary is not so significant because of the depth of water and the concentration of sediment dissolved is very low.
