ANALISIS TEKNIS PENGGUNAAN COAL OIL MIXTURE SEBAGAI BAHAN BAKAR ALTERNATIF PENGGANTI HEAVY FUEL OIL PADA MOTOR DIESEL

ABSTRAK

Jumlah cadangan minyak bumi yang semakin menipis mendorong pemerintah mengeluarkan kebijakan dalam pemanfaatan sumber energi alternatif semisal batubara. Coal oil mixture COM adalah kombinasi batubara dan minyak bumi yang dapat menghasilkan bahan bakar cair yang mendekati karakter minyak diesel. Dalam kaitannya sebagai bahan bakar alternatif maka penggunaan COM perlu dianalisis lebih lanjut terkait properties dan prestasi mesin yang dihasilkan. Pada penelitian ini batubara yang digunakan adalah batubara peringkat rendah yang dicampur dengan zat aditif xylene maupun toluene dan marine diesel oil MDO. Adapun rasio MDObatubaraaditif yang digunakan adalah 501010 untuk menghasilkan produk batubara cair yang optimal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan properties COM lebih mendekati MDO dibandingkan HFO sebagaimana standar ISO 8217 kecuali flash point yang rendah yaitu 35 oC pada COM 1 Toluene dan karbon residu mencapai 2.71 wt pada COM 2 Xylene. Adapun nilai kalori dan cetane indeks dari COM lebih rendah dibandingkan MDO dikarenakan pemanfaatan batubara berkalori rendah dalam campurannya. Parameter prestasi mesin meliputi daya SFOC dan efisiensi termal yang dihasilkan MDO lebih baik dibandingkan COM dikarenakan heat release rate yang dihasilkan lebih besar dan ignition delay yang lebih singkat.


ABSTRACT

The dwindling of petroleum reserves encouraged the government to issue some policies for utilizing alternative energy sources such as coal . Coal oil mixture COM is a combination of coal and petroleum to produce liquid fuel which the character approaching diesel oil . In association as an alternative fuel the use of COM related to the properties and the diesel engine performance needs to be further analyzed In this study the coal used is low rank coal which added with xylene and toluene additives and mixed with marine diesel oil MDO . The ratio of MDO coal additive used is 501010 to produce optimal liquid coal . The results of this study indicate that the properties of the COM is closer to MDO than HFO as the ISO 8217 standard except that the low 35 C of flash point of COM 1 toluene and carbon residue which reached 2.71 wt of COM 2 Xylene . The calorific value and cetane index of COM 1 Toluene and COM 2 xylene was slightly lower than MDO due to the utilization of low-calorie coal in the mixture of COMs. As a result the diesel engine performances including power SFOC and thermal efficiency by using MDO are better than COMs due to the bigger of heat release rate and the shorter ignition delay.
