ABSTRAK

Permainan edukasi memiliki potensi untuk menjadi metode pembelajaran yang efektif. Untuk memiliki potensi itu permainan edukasi harus bisa memaksimalkan dua fungsi utamanya mengedukasi dan menghibur. Dua fungsi utama ini telah didesain agar tidak saling bertentangan pada desain permainan. Pada penelitian sebelumnya proses pengembangan permainan edukasi dilakukan dengan langsung mengimplementasikan desain permainan tanpa sebuah dokumentasi desain yang baku. Dokumentasi desain permainan adalah salah satu faktor penentu kualitas hasil akhir permainan yang dikembangkan. Tanpa sebuah dokumentasi yang baik hasil akhir permainan bisa berbeda dengan desain awal. Dengan proses pengembangan saat ini kualitas permainan edukasi masih kurang maksimal. Penelitian ini mengembangkan format dokumen desain permainan DDP yang dapat meningkatkan kualitas permainan edukasi khususnya terkait integrasi aspek edukasi dan permainan dalam sebuah proses pengembangan permainan edukasi. Sebuah format DDP yang bisa mendokumentasikan bagaimana unsur edukasi dimasukkan dalam permainan dipakai untuk menghasilkan permainan edukasi yang berkualitas. DDP ini dikembangkan berdasarkan format DDP baku untuk permainan umum. Format DDP ini diperbaiki agar dapat mendokumentasikan desain permainan edukasi dengan lebih baik. Aspek permainan dan edukasi telah didesain agar tidak saling bertentangan pada desain awal permainan edukasi. DDP dipakai untuk mendokumentasikan desain permainan edukasi dalam proses pengembangan permainan edukasi. Penggunaan DDP diharapkan dapat menyampaikan desain awal permainan pada tim pengembang. Dengan desain yang tersampaikan dengan baik permainan edukasi yang dihasilkan memiliki kualitas yang lebih baik.


ABSTRACT

Educational games has the potential to be an effective method of learning. However educational games should be able to maximize its two main functions to educate and to entertain. In previous research educational game development process is done by directly implementing game design without a standard game design documentation. Documentation of game design is one of the determining factors of the quality of the developed game. Without a good documentation the developed game can be different from the early game design. With the current development process quality of educational games is still not maximal. This study is focused on how to produce educational games with better quality by using a game design document GDD. A GDD format that can document how the elements of education are included in the game are used to produce an high quality educational games. The GDD is developed based on the format of GDD for general game developed by Salazar. Salazars GDD format will be adapted in order to be able to document the design of educational games. The game and educational aspects of the game has been designed so as not to contradict to initial design of educational games. GDD is used to document the design of educational games in the educational the game development process. The use of GDD is expected to deliver a preliminary design to the game development team. With a design that conveyed properly the developed educational games will have a better quality.
