Pendidikan bisa diartikan sebagai suatu usaha manusia--disengaja atau tidak-yang dilakukan untuk memajukan perkembangan individu dan masyarakat. Namun secara mendasar pendidikan tidak dapat terselenggara dengan baik tanpa usaha sadar dan terarah untuk maksud tersebut; dengan kata lain pendidikan haruslah merupakan suatu usaha manusia yang sadar tujuan. Secara umum pendidikan bisa diartikan sebagai suatu usaha menempatkan seseorang dalam suatu lingkungan tertentu yang dikondisikan agar seseorang itu memperoleh suatu perkembangan dan kemampuan sesuai dengan yang diinginkan secara maksimal. Pendidikan ini ditujukan untuk menghasilkan perubahan-perubahan dalam arti positif secara melekat dan langgeng. Dengan melihat perumusan diatas, maka pendidikan secara garis besar dapat diartikan sebagai suatu kegiatan yang sadar tujuan, dengan memberikan usaha yang disengaja lewat suatu pengaruh lingkungan yang bisa berupa sekolah, keluarga atau masyarakat secara luas, yang bertujuan menghasilkan perubahan-perubahan. Pendidikan bertujuan untuk mengembangkan seorang anak didik menjadi insan individu yang mampu berkiprah secara'lebih terarah dalam lingkungan yang dihidupinya. Pendidikan berupaya memberikan bekal sebanyak mungkin kepada seorang anak didik agar dapat berfungsi sebagai makhluk individu dalam lingkungannya yang bermacam-macam. Untuk itu perlu diberikan kepada anak didik unsur-unsur penting dalam penelaahan lingkungan berupa konsep-konsep, .prinsip dan hukum-hukum dasar, serta kaidah-kaidah generalisasi; tidak kalah pentingnya upaya untuk menumbuhkan sifat-sifat ingin tahu, kreatif, trampil, dan bertanggungjawab.

Education can be defined as a human endeavor - intentional or not-done to advance the development of the individual and society. But education can not be fundamentally well-established without conscious effort and focus for that purpose; in other words, education must be a conscious goal of human endeavor. In general, education can be interpreted as an attempt to put someone in a particular environment that is conditioned in order to obtain a person's development and capability in accordance with the desired maximum. Education is intended to produce changes in the positive sense is inherent and lasting. By looking at the formulation of the above, then the education can be broadly defined as an activity of conscious purpose, by giving a deliberate attempt by an environmental impact which can include school, family or society at large, aimed at producing changes. Education aims to develop a protege to an individual human being is capable of acting in an environment that focused secara'lebih dihidupinya. Education seeks to provide supplies as much as possible to a learner in order to function as an individual creature in its environment are manifold. To that should be given to the students the essential elements in the environmental review of concepts. Principles and fundamental laws, and rules of generalization; no less important effort to grow the properties of curious, creative, skilled, and responsible.
