ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman mendasar tentang pencampuran padat-padat dari bahan tepung kohesif dan higroskopis. Tujuannya adalah untuk memperoleh tingkat homogenitas campuran yang tinggi dalam waktu yang lebih pendek dengan konsumsi energi spesifik yang rendah. Pencampuran dilakukan untuk tiga kelompok ukuran partikel urea-zeolit alam UZ yaitu 50 60 mesh 60 80 mesh dan 80 mesh untuk pembuatan pupuk urea rilis lambat SRF-U. Mengingat urea dan zeolit alam memiliki sifat higroskopis dan kohesif maka dipilih pencampur tipe pengaduk screw yang mengorbit untuk mencampurkan kedua bahan padat tersebut. Tahap pertama dari rangkaian penelitian ini adalah mengevaluasi kinerja pencampuran tanpa injeksi udara dari pengaruh kecepatan putar screw nr dan no dan ukuran partikel terhadap konsumsi energi spesifik total homogenitas campuran Xu waktu pencampuran tmh. Hasil eksperimen menunjukkan pada no yang lebih tinggi konsumsi daya lebih yang didominasi oleh gerakan rotasi pengaduk ulir. Pada no tetap semakin tinggi nr semakin pendek waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk mencapai campuran yang homogen. Hasil eksperimen menunjukkan nilai paling rendah sebesar 10.294 Joule.kg-1 diperoleh untuk pencampuran UZ 50 60 mesh dengan rasio nrno 505 rpm. Nilai Xu diperoleh berkisar antara 0495 dengan tmh 61 menit.


ABSTRACT

This study is intended to improve basic understanding on solid-solid mixing from cohesive and hygroscopic powder. The goal is to obtain a high level of homogeneity of the mixture in a shorter time with low specific energy consumption. In this study urea powder and natural zeolite UZ with size of 50 to 80 meshes were used. Urea and natural zeolite was prepared in 3 size groups by using 50 60 mesh 60 80 mesh and 80 mesh screens. Both of it were mixed for the making of Slow Release Fertilizer Urea SRF-U. Since both of these solids had hygroscopic and cohesive properties and according to the experience of solid-solid mixing operation in industry it was reported that orbiting screw mixer type was the most suitable mixing unit for cohesive material. In this study mixing unit was modified by applying air injection which was called Modified Orbiting Screw Mixer MOSM. The first step of this study was to evaluate the effects of rotational and orbital speed of the screw nr and no particle size to power consumption mixture homogeneity mixing time and specific energy consumption t in mixing without air injection. Experiment result showed that in higher no more power consumption was needed where mixing power consumption was dominated by screw rotational motion. In constant orbital velocity higher screw rotational speed shorter time needed for achieving homogeneous mixture. Experimental results showed the lowest value of 10294 Joules.kg-1 was obtained for the mixing ratio nrno 505 rpm of 50 60 mesh. The value of Xu was 0.495 with mixing time 6.1 minutes.
