MEMBRAN KOMPOSIT SELULOSE-KHITOSAN BERIKATSILANG SEBAGAI BIOSORBEN LOGAM BERAT

A series of cross-linked chitosan -cellulose composite membranes were prepared by coating 1 2 and 3 chitosan solution containing 1 acetic acid with and without 5 and 10 polyethylene glycol PEG addition on 3181 cm2 area of the grade 4 Whatman filter paper. The composite membranes were cross-linked with glutaraldehyde. Physical properties of the composite membranes and their applications in adsorption of heavy metals Cu II Ni II Cr III Pb II and Zn II from aqueous solution were examined. Thickness and weight of chitosan layer on the composite membranes is 767096 um -2593066 um and 129053 mg -2924616 mg. The isotherm adsorption equilibrium studies of heavy metals were conducted from various salt solutions with a constant temperature and varying initial concentrations of heavy metals at an optimum pH without agitation along 24 hours. The experimental data were fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models. The experimental results demonstrate that cross-linked chitosan-cellulose composite membranes were the effective biosorbent. The composite membrane containing I chitosan was the most effective biosorbent. The experimental results show that the order of heavy metal adsorption capacity per gram chitosan thin layer by the composite membrane decreasedfrom Pb II to Zn II as follows Pb II 9000 mgg R2 097 Ni II 3000 mgg R2 097 Cu II 2500 mgg R2 099 Cr III 750 mgg R1 0998 Zn II 350 mgg R2 0989.
