ABSTRAK

Biodiesel merupakan salah satu energi alternatif pengganti bahan bakar fosil dari hasil reaksi transesterifikasi minyak nabati dengan metanol. Proses pembuatan biodiesel selama ini menggunakan katalis homogen NaOH atau KOH yang memiliki kelemahan terbentuknya produk samping berupa sabun dan rumitnya pemisahan produk biodiesel dengan katalis. Maka dari itu mulai dikembangkan penggunaan katalis heterogen. Penelitian ini mengembangkan katalis CaOMgO- Al2O3. Pembuatan katalis melalui metode presipitasi CaO dan MgO pada -Al2O3 serta asam asetat sebagai larutan precursor selama 3 jam. Kemudian dioven selama 12 jam pada suhu 110oC dan dikalsinasi pada suhu 700oC selama 5 jam. Katalis yang diperoleh digunakan untuk membantu proses transesterifikasi biodiesel dengan variable massa katalis 4 7 10 13 16 gram laju alir reaktan 4 7 10 13 16 mlmenit dan suhu 125 150 175 200 225 oC. Dari hasil penelitian didapatkan yield dan konversi tertinggi sebesar 0642 gr biodieselgr minyak dan 63975 didapatkan pada penggunaan massa katalis 16 gram serta kondisi operasi suhu 225oC dan laju alir umpan 4 mlmenit.


ABSTRACT

Biodiesel is one of alternative energy for fuel which made from transesterification reaction between vegetable oil and methanol. All this time biodiesel production was using homogeneous catalysts such as NaOH or KOH. However this process has several weaknesses such as include the formation of soap as a byproduct and complexity of separation between biodiesel and catalyst that is why heterogeneous catalyst was developed. In this study we investigated CaOMgO-Al2O3 as catalyst. The catalyst was made by precipitated CaO and MgO to -Al2O3 using acetid acid as precursor in 3 hours. Next drying it in the oven for 12 hours at 110oC and calcinations for 5 hours at 700oC. The catalyst is used in the transesterification process with the variable mass of catalyst 4 7 10 13 16 gram flow rate of reactants 4 7 10 13 16 mlmin and temperature 125 150 175 200 250oC. From the experiment we got that the best yield and conversion of biodiesel is 0642 gr biodieselgr oil and 63975 when we using mass of catalyst 16 gram at 225oC with flow rate of 4 mlminute.
