ABSTRAK

Penurunan kualitas udara sebagian besar disebabkan oleh adanya penggunaan bahan bakar dari minyak bumi pada kendaraan bermotor. Ada beberapa cara untuk mengatasi masalah ini antara lain dengan mencari bahan bakar alternatif yang ramah lingkungan dan menerapkan ambang batas dari gas buang kendaraan bermotor dengan penggunaan catalytic converter. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan biodiesel minyak sawit minyak jarak dan solar sebagai campuran bahan bakar mesin diesel untuk mengetahui perbandingan emisi HC CO dan NOx yang dihasilkan. Variasi yang digunakan adalah komposisi campuran dan putaran mesin diesel. Hasil yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan catalytic converter mampu mereduksi secara optimum emisi HC pada komposisi 20 per sen minyak sawit dengan 80 per sen solar sebesar 46667 per sen. Sedangkan untuk mereduksi emisi CO optimum pada komposisi 20 per sen minyak jarak dengan 80 per sen solar sebesar 60 per sen. Untuk emisi NOx catalytic converter mampu mereduksi optimum pada komposisi 20 per sen minyak jarak dengan 80 per sen solar sebesar 43810 per sen.


ABSTRACT

The degradation of air quality is caused mostly by the existence of petroleum fuel by motor vehicles. One of the way of handling this problem is by using biofuel as an alternative like this biodiesel which are very friendly with the environment and can also be conducted by limiting the boundary of effluent gas of the motor vehicles by using of catalytic converter. In this research palm oil biodiesel castor oil and diesel fuel were used as a mixture of diesel engine fuel to know the comparison of emission of HC CO and NOx yielded. Variation used of composition of mixture and diesel engine rotation. From the test result its shown that the used of catalytic converter reduced optimally the emission of HC with the concentration of 20 percent of palm oil and it mixed with 80 percent solar reducing till 46667 per cen. While the emission of CO a mixture of concentration 20 percent castor oil and a 80 percent of solar reducing till 60 percent emission NOx with the concentration of 20 percent castor oil and 80 percent solar reducing till 43810 percent.
