ABSTRAK

Pada pengolahan air water treatment di dalamnya terdapat suatu proses flokulasi. Flokulasi biasanya dilakukan dalam tangki teraduk dimana energi dissipasi yang dihasilkan dari putaran impeller mempengaruhi gradient kecepatan G. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pembentukkan flok pada proses flokulasi dalam tangki berpengaduk inclined fan turbine yang ditunjukkan dengan adanya distribusi ukuran partikel setiap waktu di dalam tangki dengan memperhatikan pengaruh G dan fraksi volum solid 0 pada proses penggabungan dan pemecahan flok. Simulas idilakukan dalam Matlab dan CFD menggunakan software Fluent 6.2.16. dengan pemodelan population balance model untuk G 25s-1 32s-1 50s-1 70s-1 90s-1 135s-1 dan 0 195s-1 25x10-5 5x10-5dan 75x10-5. Dari hasil penelitian tampak bahwa semakin besar fraksi volum o maka makin besar ukuran flok dan jumlah flok yang terbentuk terutama pada harga G70s-1. Untuk berbagai fraksi volum flokukasi yang optimal terjadi pada G 25s-1- 50s-1. Dari dua model tangki yang digunakan flokulasi berlangsung lebih optimal dan menghasilkan ukuran flok yang lebih besar di dalam tangki persegi dibanding tangki silinder.


ABSTRACT

One of process in water treatment plant is flocculation.Flocculation usually occur in mixing tank where the dissipation energy that is produced from impeller rotation influences the shear rate G. The research objective is studying of floc growth in agitated tank with inclined fan turbine. The particle size distribution each time in tank is influenced by shear rate G and volum fraction o. The research had been done by using MATLAB to solve the population balance model PBM and using CFD with FLUENT 6.2.16 software to simulate the flocculation process for G variables are 25 s-1 50 s-1 70 s-1 90 s-1 135 s-1 195 s-1 and o variables are 2.5x 10-55x 10-5 7.5 x10-5. The result of this research shows that ever greater o hence floc size and number of formed .floc especially if G 70 s-1. To various o optimum flocculation occurs in G25 s-1 - 50 s-1. From two used tank model flocculation occurs more optimal and yield bigger floc size in square tank than cylinder tank.
