ABSTRAK

Industri pelapisan logam elektroplating dapat menghasilkan air limbah yang mengandung unsur-unsur logam salah satunya Cr. Apabila dibuang langsung ke badan air akan membahayakan lingkungan. Untuk itu perlu dikembangkan suatu teknik pengolahan sederhana untuk menurunkan kadar logam berat yang bisa diterapkan pada industri-industri tersebut yaitu dengan prinsip elektrolisa sebagai salah satu alternatif pemecahan dalam menangani permasalahan air buangan yang mengandung logam berat Cr. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan penyisihan logam Cr dengan variasi yang dilakukan adalah jenis katoda dan jarak antar elektroda. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan efisiensi removal yang terbesar dalam penurunan logam berat Cr. Proses elektrolisa dilakukan dalam proses batch selama waktu 180 menit.Jarak antar elektroda yang digunakan adalah sebesar adalah 2 cm 3 cm 5 cm dan 6 cm sedangkan jenis katoda yang digunakan adalah karbon dan besi.. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kadar logam berat Cr dapat diturunkan melalui proses elektrolisa dengan berbagai macam jarak antar elektroda yang berbeda. Efisiensi penghilangan Cr terbesar terjadi pada katoda besi dengan jarak 2 cm yaitu 9163. Sedangkan untuk katoda karbon pada jarak 2 cm kenaikan efisiensi removal Cr sebesar 8415.


ABSTRACT

Industrys of metal veneering elektroplating can produce chromatic waste water and contain metal elements. If the waste water is thrown into a river it will endanger the human life. So it is require to developed a simple method to degrade the content of heavy metal that can be applied to industrys that their waste water contains heavy metal. The method is called electrolysis. It can be used as an alternative to treat waste water that contains heavy metals such as Cr Chromium. The electrolysis is applied in a batch process for a duration of 180 minutes. The variables in this research are the variation distance between of cathodes and and variation of cathode. These variable are used to identify the biggest removal efficiency of Cr. The distance between electrodes are 2 cm 3 cm5 cm and 6 cm The variation of its cathode are Carbon and Ferrum. The research result show that the concentration of Cr can be decreased by electrolysis process Using many electrode distance the biggest removal efficiency is 9163 by using 2 cms electrode distance. As cathode variation the using of ferrum cathode can decrease the Cr removal eficiency up to 9163 bigger in result compare to the use of.
