Description:

Bakteri Escherichia coli (E.Coli) merupakan salah satu bakteri yang paling banyak terdapat dalam air sungai. Proses penginaktifasian bakteri E.Coli secara kimia seperti: klorinasi, ozonisasi memberikan efek yang kurang baik. Oleh sebab itu, harus ada alternatif lain dalam penginaktifasian bakteri E.Coli secara fisik dan salah satu alternatifnya adalah dengan penggunaan sinar Ultraviolet (UV). Fotokatalis Titanium dioksida (TiO2) merupakan jenis katalis yang bersifat tidak larut dalam air. Penggunaan fotokatalis TiO2 dan sinar UV dimaksudkan dapat mempercepat proses penginaktifasian atau penurunan jumlah bakteri E.Coli dalam air. Pada penelitian ini, parameter yang digunakan yaitu jumlah penurunan bakteri E.Coli dan log reduksi bakteri E.Coli terhadap waktu. Variasi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah dosis katalis TiO2 sebesar 0,5 gr/l; 1 gr/l; 1,5 gr/l; 2 gr/l dan lampu UV yang digunakan adalah lampu UV 15 watt; 30 watt dan 36 watt. Hasil yang didapat dari penelitian sebagai berikut dengan penyinaran selama 30 menit didapat UV optimum yaitu lampu UV 36 watt dengan log reduksi sebesar -9,4393 dengan persen reduksi sebesar 99,99%. Sedangkan dengan penggunaan katalis TiO2 (serbuk) dan penyinaran UV 36 watt didapat dosis katalis optimum yaitu TiO2 0,5 gr/l dengan log reduksi sebesar -9,6021 (menit ke 10) dan persen reduksi sebesar 100% (menit ke-15). Pada reaktor kontinyu, didapat debit aliran sebesar 0,0045 L/dtk sehingga QL sebesar 0,00001 L/cm2.s dengan kedalaman 9 cm dan td sebesar15 menit.

Escherichia coli (E.Coli) is one of bacteria that mostly found in river. Inactivation process of E.Coli with chemical process such as chlorination, ozonation give unfavourable effect. Because of that, it must have alternative system to inactive E.Coli with phisic process and one of alternative process is by using Ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Photocatalyst Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is one of catalyst which have a character, insoluble in water. Use of photocatalyst TiO2 and UV light intended to make unactive process or reduce E.Coli in water faster. In fact, several country in the world already use this method. This research, used parameters that are degradation of E.Coli concentration and logarithm reduce of E.Coli to time. There are some variations of catalyst dose which are 0,5 gr/l; 1 gr/l; 1,5 gr/l; 2 gr/l and variations of UV lamps which are UV lamps 15 watt; 30 watt and 36 watt. This research has following results : by irradiating during 30 minute got optimum UV that is lamp UV 36 watt with logarithm reduce equal to -9,4393 with percent reduce equal to 99,99%. While using catalyst TiO2 (powder) and irradiating UV 36 watt got optimum catalyst dose that is TiO2 0,5 gr/l with logarithm reduce equal to -9,6021 (10 minute) and percent reduce equal to 100% (15 minute). On continue reactor, got water flow rate equal to 0,0045 L/s so that got QL equal to 0,00001 L/cm2.s with deep is 9 cm and time of demand is 15 minute.
