Kebutuhan reparasi kapal dan pembangunan kapal baru dari tahun ke tahun semakin meningkat sementara sarana reparasi dan pembangunan kapal baru pada galangan kapal sangat terbatas. Oleh karena itu diperlukan sarana yang tepat pada galangan kapal untuk mengurangi lamanya waktu tunggu kapal. L-Shape Floating Lift Dock merupakan sarana yang layak digunakan pada galangan kapal yang ditinjau dari aspek teknis maupun ekonomis. Aspek teknis meliputi : perencanaan ukuran utama L-Shape Floating Lift Dock, analisa keseimbangan, analisa stabilitas, kekuatan konstruksi, bengkel-bengkel produksi, peralatan produksi, material handling dan tata letak galangan. Aspek ekonomis meliputi perhitungan pengembalian modal (pay back period) dari biaya investasi. Biaya investasi yang diperlukan untuk pengadaan L-Shape Floating Lift Dock dan sarana pendukung galangan diperkirakan waktu pengembalian 11 tahun jika dilakukan dengan 100% modal sendiri, waktu pengembalian 16 tahun jika dilakukan dengan 50% modal sendiri dan 50% modal bank dan waktu pengembalian 20 tahun jika dilakukan dengan 100% modal bank.

The demands of ship repair and ship building from year to year tend to increase. On the other hand, the main facilities to repair and ship building available at shipyards are very limited. Therefore, the appropriate main facilities is needed at the shipyards to reduce a long waiting time of the ships. L-Shape Floating Lift Dock is an alternative to be considered at shipyards that is analyzed from economical and technical aspects. The technical aspects are : principal dimension of L-Shape Floating Lift Dock, equilibrium analysis, large angle stability analysis, construction strength, production workshops, production equipments, material handling, and layout of shipyard. The economical aspect is calculation of pay back period of the investment. The investment cost of L-Shape Floating Lift Dock and the support facilities of shipyard is estimated with pay back period of 11 year if it is conducted by 100% personal capital, pay back period 16 year conducted by 50% personal capital and 50% bank capital, and pay back period 20 year if it is conducted by 100% bank capital.
