ABSTRAK

Helixchanger adalah salah satu bentuk dari shell and tube heat exchangers alat penukar panas cangkang dan buluh yang terdiri dari shell atau cangkang tube atau buluh dan baffle atau penahan dan pengarah aliran. Perbedaan antara helixchanger dengan shell and tube heat exchangers konvensional adalah susunan baffles pada helixchangers merupakan potongan seperempat lingkaran ditata melingkar dengan sudut kemiringan tertentu. Dengan susunan baffle seperti tersebut maka aliran fluida sisi shell akan menyerupai ulir. Tugas Akhir ini mengkaji unjuk kerja penukar panas dan besar penurunan tekanan atau pressure drop pada helixchanger dengan kemiringan baffle 10. Metode eksperimental diterapkan dengan peubah laju aliran fluida panas air pada suhu optimum 60C. Debit fluida panas bervariasi antara 1500 lph sampai 2700 lph dan fluida dingin bervariasi dari 500 lph sampai 900 lph dengan kenaikan masing masing 300 lph dan 100 lph. Dari hasil eksperimen alat penukar panas helix 10 aliran berlawanan didapatkan laju perpindahan panas aktual berkisar antara 6700 9600 Watt dan effectiveness antara 0.25 0.5 dengan NTU antara 0.3 0.6 pada Cr yang bervariasi antara 0.2 0.5.


ABSTRACT

Helixchanger is a type of shell and tube heat exchangers which consist of shell tube and baffle. The main difference between helixchanger and conventional shell and tube heat exchangers is the baffles arrangement. In helixchangers the baffle are quadrant shaped and arranged circularly with certain slope. With such arrangement the shell side fluid flows will be similar to screw. This final assignment studied the performance and pressure drop of helixchanger with 10 degrees baffle slope. Experimental method applied with hot fluid debit as variable at optimum temperature of 60C. Hot fluid volumetric flow rates varies from 1500 lph to 2700 lph and cold fluids varies from 500 lph to 900 lph with increment of 300 lph and 100 lph respectively. Experimental results of counter flow helix 10 degrees heat exchanger show actual heat transfer varies between 6700 9600 Watt. The effectiveness varies between 0.25 0.5 with NTU from 0.3 to 0.6 at Cr varies between 0.2 0.5.
