ABSTRAK

Pengelasan SMAW Shielded Metal Arc Welding dan FCAW Flux Cored Arc Welding adalah pengelasan yang banyak digunakan untuk penyambungan konstruksi berat misalnya jembatan perpipaan dan konstruksi bangunan baja. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan kualitas pengelasan yang paling baik dan memiliki ketangguhan tinggi dari hasil perbandingan pengelasan SMAW dan FCAW pada material high tensile strength. Percobaan dilakukan menggunakan material baja tipe AH 36 dengan jenis sambungan las tumpul butt joint dan silang fillet joint. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jumlah cacat yang banyak terdeteksi terjadi pada proses pengelasan SMAW yaitu jenis cacat las slag inclusion dan incomplete penetration. Persimpangan sudut distorsi terbesar terjadi pada pengelasan SMAW yaitu pada sambungan tumpul sebesar 0.62 derajat dan sambungan fillet sebesar 1.05 derajat. Sedangkan nilai ketangguhan tertinggi dicapai pada proses pengelasan FCAW yaitu pada daerah logam las sebesar 488.68 ksi inchi dan ketangguhan pada daerah HAZ sebesar 444.92 ksi inchi. Dari hasil tersebut disimpulkan bahwa faktor yang sangat berpengaruh dalam proses pengelasan untuk menghasilkan kualitas pengelasan dan ketangguhan yang baik adalah masukan panas heat input dan perlakuan pada saat pengelasan


ABSTRACT

SMAW Shielded Metal Arc Welding and FCAW Flux Cored Arc Welding commonly utilized for heavy construction such as bridging piping and steel building constructing. The research achievement is to get both the best quality and high strength of SMAW and FCAW welding method respectively on high tensile strength. AH-36 type steel material utilized in butt joint and fillet joint. The results show most defect detected on SMAW namely slag inclusion and incomplete penetration. The largest distorsions angle occurred at SMAW with its butt and fillet joint are 0.62 degree and 1.05 degree respectively. However the highest strength achieved at FCAW method. It was area of 488.68 ksi inch and HAZ area of 444.92 ksi inch. We summarize that the most significant factors to produce both high quality and strength in welding process are heat input and treatment.
