ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF Moringa oleifera SEED EXTRACT TO THE GROWTH OF staphylococcus aureus

ABSTRAK

Kelor M. oleifera Lam. dapat digunakan sebagai pengobatan tradisional dalam berbagai penyakit seperti infeksi kulit. Infeksi kulit dapat disebabkan oleh bakteri S. aureus. Keberdaan senyawa aktif dalam biji kelor dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui besar daya hambat ekstrak biji kelor M .oleifera Lam. dengan pelarut metanol dan n-heksan terhadap bakteri S. aureus. Metode yang digunakan adalah ekstraksi biji kelor dengan dua macam pelarut selanjutnya dilakukan uji antibakteri dengan metode difusi lempeng agar. Parameter yang diamati adalah besanya zona terang yang terbentuk disekeliling cakram. Rancangan penelitian menggunakan RAL untuk percobaan faktorial dengan 10 kombinasi perlakuan dan 3 ulangan. Hasil dianalisis dengan ANOVA dua arah dan uji Duncan 5. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa besarnya konsentrasi ekstrak berbanding lurus dengan lebar diameter zona terang. Ekstrak dengan pelarut methanol pada konsentrasi 1 memberikan nilai zona terang terbesar dibandingkan perlakuan yang lainnya.


ABSTRACT

M. oleifera was used for traditional medication in many diseases as like dermatitis that caused by Staphylococcus aureus. The active compounds in M. oleifera seed can pursue bacterium growth. The aim of this research was to know the resistivity of Moringa oleifera seed extract with methanol and n-heksan solvent to the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. The methode used is M. oleifera extraction with two kind of solvent continued with antibacterial test using plate agar diffusion methode. Observed parameter were clear zone diameter around the disk. Research device was using RAL or complete random device for factorial attempt with 10 treatments and 3 repeats and than the result was analysed by using two ways ANOVA and Duncant-test 5. The result of this research indicated that the level of seed extract concentration compare diametrical with wide of clear zone diameter. The extract with methanol solvent at 1 concentration assign the widest clear zone diameter compared from the others.
