Minyak kenanga merupakan salah satu jenis minyak atsiri yang sering juga disebut dengan minyak esteris atau minyak terbang. Minyak atsiri atau minyak esteris adalah istilah yang digunakan untuk minyak yang mudah menguap dengan komposisi dan titik didih yang berbeda-beda. Proses pembuatan minyak kenanga dapat dilakukan dengan berbagai macam cara, diantaranya yaitu destilasi air, destilasi uap dan air dan destilasi uap. Indonesia adalah salah satu penghasil minyak kenanga di dunia, namun kualitas dari minyak kenanganya masih dibawah negara-negara lain pengekspor minyak kenanga lainnya, hal itu disebabkan karena faktor-faktor yang kurang mendukung dalam budidaya kenanga baik pra panen maupun pasca panen. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah Mempelajari proses pembuatan minyak kenanga dengan menggunakan metode penyulingan destilasi uap. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode destilasi uap . Pertama-tama air dimasukkan ke ketel uap untuk menghasilkan steam, dengan menggunakan bahan bakar LPG, sedangkan bahan baku dimasukkan ke ketel suling. Apabila steam yang terbentuk sudah mencapai suhu ± 1000C dan tekanannya ± 1 bar maka steam tersebut dialirkan ke ketel suling. Uap dan minyak kenanga yang keluar dari ketel suling dialirkan ke kondensor. Waktu penyulingan dihitung mulai tetes pertama dari kondensat. Minyak yang ada di kondensat dipisahkan dari air suling kemudian dianalisa. Pada penelitian ini variabel peubahnya adalah arah aliran steam(atas dan bawah), bentuk bahan baku dan juga lama waktu destilasi (0.5; 1; 1.5 jam). Sedangkan kondisi operasinya adalah temperatur steam ± 1000C dan tekanannya ± 1 bar. Dari hasil penelitian destilasi kenanga untuk destilasi dengan aliran uap dari bawah diperoleh persen rendemen untuk 500 gr bunga utuh pada 30 menit sebesar 0.1661, 60 menit sebesar 0.04944, dan 90 menit sebesar 0.00602, sedangkan persen rendemen untuk 500 gr bunga cacah pada 30 menit sebesar 0.27, 60 menit sebesar 0.08228 , 90 menit sebesar 0.0303, untuk destilasi dengan aliran uap dari atas diperoleh persen rendemen untuk 1000 gr pada waktu 30 menit sebesar 0.3322, 90 menit sebesar 0.09888, dan 120 menit sebesar 0.01204.

Cananga oil is one type of essential oil that call esteris oil or light oil.Essential oil or esteris oil is term that use for volatile oil with different composition and boiling point.There are many process to make cananga oil,that are,:water distillation,water and steam distillation and steam distillation.Indonesia is one of produsent of cananga oil in the world,but the quality of cananga oil is less than other country that produce cananga oil,that is because many factor can’t support in plant of cananga before harvest and after harvest. The purpose of this research is to learn the process to make cananga oil with steam distillation. This research use steam distillation.First enter water in boiler to produce steam,and use LPG for the fuel to boil it,while the feed entered in destilator.when steam reach the boiling poin±t 1000 c and pressure ± 1 bar hence that steam entered in destilator.Steam with oil that out from destilator go to condenser.Time calculated from the first drop of condensate.After that oil in condensate is separated from the water,than analyze.In this research the variable is the instruct of the steam(from the top and the bottom of destilator) and time of distillation (0.5;1;1.5 hour).While the condition of operation are steam boil until ± 1000 c and the pressure is ± 1 bar. The result of this research for distillation with steam from the bottom of destilator got percent rendement for 500 gr cananga in 30 minute is 0.1661,60 minute is 0.04944,and 90 minute is 0.00602,while percent rendement for 500 gr cananga by slice in 30 minute is 0.27,60 minute is 0.08228,90 minute is 0.0303,for distillation with steam from the top of destilator got percent rendement for 1000 gr cananga for 30 minute is 0.3322,90 minute is 0.09888,and 120 minute is 0.01204.
