PENINGKATAN WAKTU TINGGAL CAIRAN DALAM REAKTOR HORIZONTAL SEBAGAI STUDI AWAL PENGOLAHAN LIMBAH CAIR SATU FASE

IMPROVEMENT OF LIQUID RESIDENCE TIME IN HORIZONTAL REACTOR AS A PRELIMINARY STUDY ONE PHASE WASTEWATER TREATMENT

ABSTRAK

Sebagian kecil reaktor kimia dalam industri mempunyai daerah non ideal yaitu adanya daerah stagnan dead zone short circuiting dan channeling yang menyebabkan berkurangnya efisiensi waktu tinggal cairan dalam reaktor. Untuk meningkatkan efisiensi dalam reaktor tersebut dapat dicapai dengan pendekatan waktu tinggal teoritis t teoritis VQ . Salah satu cara yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengurangi daerah non ideal yaitu dengan penambahan baffle pada reaktor berikut variasi tutup bukaan pada baffle. Tujuan penelitian yaitu untuk memperkecil perbedaan waktu tinggal liquid dengan teoritisnya sehingga efisiensi dalam reaktor tersebut dapat ditingkatkan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu dengan menginjeksikan tracer larutan NaCl ke dalam inlet reaktor yang kemudian konsentrasi larutan NaCl tersebut diukur dengan menggunakan konduktometer. Hasil yang didapat yaitu semakin banyak baffle yang dipasang pada reaktor maka efisiensi waktu tinggal cairan akan semakin meningkat. Variasi tutup bukaan baffle yang menyebabkan aliran air yang menyebar tipe1 tipe 4 dan tipe 5 akan mengakibatkan waktu tinggal cairan dalam reaktor semakin lama. Sedangkan yang menyebabkan aliran air menyempittipe 2 dan tipe 3 akan mempercepat waktu tinggal cairan dalam reaktor. Dari percobaan ini di dapat jumlah baffle yang paling optimum ialah 4 baffle dan variasi tutup bukaan baffle tipe 5 dengan efisiensi sebesar 9985 .


ABSTRACT

Less of chemical reactor in industry have a non ideal zone such as stagnant zone dead zone short circuiting and channeling which reduce the efficiency of liquid residence time in the reactor. To increase the efficiency of liquid residence time in the reactor the theoritical residence time distribution t theory VQ can be used. One way which can do to decrease non ideal zone is to set baffle on the reactor follow the variation of baffle stream distribution. The purpose of this research is to decrease difference between practical liquid residence time with the theorytical liquid residence time so that the efficiency inside of reactor can be increase. The method used in this research is by injecting tracer NaCl solution into inlet reactor. And then the NaCl solution concentration measured by conductivitymetre. The result of this research is the increasing amount of baffle has caused the enhancement of efficiency of liquid residence time in the reactor. The variation of baffle stream distribution that caused water stream spreadly type 1 4 and 5 it made the enhancement of liquid residence time in reactor. While the variation of baffle stream distribution that caused water stream narrowly type 2 and 3 it will make short of liquid residence time in reactor. For this research 4 baffle is the best ammount of baffle setting and the variation of baffle stream distribution is type 5 with 9985 efficiency.
