STUDI EKSPERIMENTAL PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN DUA BUAH GUIDE VANE TERHADAP PRESSURE DROP ALIRAN DI DALAM RECTANGULAR ELBOW 90

EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF ADDITIONAL TWO GUIDE VANES EFFECT AGAINST PRESSURE DROP OF FLOW IN RECTANGULAR ELBOW 900

ABSTRAK

Dalam sistem perpipaan elbow 90 merupakan salah satu instalasi yang sering digunakan seperti pada sistem inlet dan exhaust industri otomotif saluran saluran belokan HVAC system dan pipa saluran komersial. Salah satu permasalahan yang dijumpai dalam sistem perpipaan adalah timbulnya pressure drop aliran. Pressure drop yang terjadi di dalam elbow 90 selain disebabkan karena efek friksi juga oleh efek separasi 2-D dan secondary flow 3-D. Penambahan sudu pengarah guide vane merupakan salah satu metode untuk mengurangi efek separasi dan secondary flow namun di sisi lain adanya guide vane akan meningkatkan efek friksi. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk mengkaji fenomena aliran di dalam elbow 90 dan pengaruh penambahan guide vane terhadap pressure drop aliran. Visualisasi aliran secara eksperimen dan numerik dapat memperjelas diskripsi aliran yang terjadi untuk kondisi di atas dan dapat memberikan informasi tentang adanya vortex dan secondary flow di dalamrectangular elbow 90. Model uji yang digunakan berupa rectangular elbow 90 dengan radius ratio rmDh 1.875 tanpa dan dengan dua buah guide vanes. Angka Reynolds yang digunakan berdasarkan diameter hidrolik yaitu Re 2.1x104 dan Re 8.4x104. Variabel yang diukur adalah tekanan stagnasi dan tekanan statis. Tekanan stagnasi diukur dengan menggunakan pitot tube sedangkan tekanan statis diukur dengan wall pressure tap. Penelitian ini akan didukung dengan visualisasi aliran secara eksperimen dengan menggunakan asap dengan angka Reynolds Re 2100 dan secara numerik dengan menggunakan software fluent 6.2 dan gambit 2.2. Pada ReDH 21000 penambahan dua guide vane tidak dapat mengurangi pressure drop sedangkan untuk ReDH 84000 penambahan dua guide vane dapat meningkatkan pressure drop sebesar 33. Pada ReDH 21000 pressure drop yang terjadi lebih kecil daripada ReDH 84000.


ABSTRACT

In piping system elbow 900 is one of installation which often to be used such as automotive inlet and exhaust system bend channels HVAC system and commercial channel piping. One of the problems faced in piping system is pressure drop. Pressure drop occured in elbow 900 is not only caused by friction effect but also by separation 2D and secondary flow effect 3D. Additional guide vane is one of methods to reduce separation and secondary flow effect however the existence of guide vane will increase the friction effect. So that this research is intended to know flow phenomena in elbow 900 and the influence of additional guide vane against pressure drop of flow. Flow visualization from numerical and experimental result can give flow description that occur in above condition and to get information about the existence of flow separation and secondary flow in the rectangular elbow 900. Work pieces used in the study are rectangular elbows 900 with radius ratio rmDh 1.875 with and without additional guide vanes. Reynolds numbers based on hydraulic diameter are ReDH 21000 and ReDH 84000. Measured variables are stagnation and static pressure. Stagnation pressure were measured using pitot tube while static pressure were measured using wall pressure tap. This research also supported by flow visualizations from experimental visualization using smoke which the Reynolds number ReDH 2100 and numerical visualization using software fluent 6.2 and gambit 2.2. At ReDH 21000 the additional two guide vanes do not reduce pressure drop while at ReDH 84000 with additional two guide vane can increase the pressure drop 33. At ReDH 21000 pressure drop is lower than at ReDH 84000.
