SINTESA SILICA KOMPOSIT YANG SELEKTIF TERHADAP AIR UNTUK SOLID SORPTION REFRIGERATION

SYNTHESIS OF WATER SELECTIVE SILICA COMPOSITE FOR SOLID SORPTION REFRIGERATION

ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan silica komposit dengan kapasitas adsorpsi yang besar serta selektif terhadap air untuk aplikasi sistem refrigerasi sorption padat. Adsorbent yang dikembangkan memiliki volume pori yang besar dan selektivitas terhadap air yang tinggi. Sebagai penyangga digunakan silika berpori yang disintesa dari water glass larutan sodium silicate. Untuk mensintesa silica gel digunakan beberapa metode yaitu metode sol-gel dengan menggunakan template gelatin dan polyethylene glycol PEG serta metode sol-gel dengan agen pemodifikasi permukaan TMCS dan HMDS dan pengeringan tekanan ambient menghasilkan aerogel. Sintesa diawali dengan pembuatan precursor yaitu dengan mengencerkan sodium silicate water glass dengan perbandingan tertentu kemudian melewatkan dalam resin penukar ion untuk metode sol-gel dengan template gelatin dan metode aerogel. Precursor ini kemudian dicampur dengan template PEG atau gelatin yang telah dilarutkan dalam asam formiat atau TMCS dan HMDS untuk aerogel. Setelah itu ditambahkan dengan larutan basa amonia atau NaOH. Gel yang dihasilkan kemudian diaging dan dikeringkan dengan suhu dan waktu tertentu. Penghilangan template gelatin dilakukan dengan ekstraksi sedangkan PEG dengan kalsinasi. Silica gel yang dihasilkan dari ketiga metode tersebut kemudian direndam dalam larutan CaCl2 menjadi silica vi komposit. CaCl2 ini berfungsi sebagai garam higroskopis yang dapat meningkatkan kapasitas adsorpsi dari silica gel terhadap air. Silika komposit kemudian dianalisa dengan alat uji kapasitas adsorpsi metode oil-absorption dan mikroskop optik untuk mengetahui karakteristiknya. Silika dengan template gelatin berupa serbuk berwarna putih dengan morfologi partikel tidak beraturan. Silika aerogel ternyata kurang selektif terhadap air bersifat hidrofob. Silika dengan template PEG berupa serbuk berwarna putih morfologinya berbentuk bola dengan ukuran partikel yang relatif seragam. Kapasitas adsorbsi silika ini berkisar antara 0045 061 g uap airg adsorbent pada kisaran humidity relatif 40-100. Kapasitas adsorpsi silika semakin kecil dengan jumlah template PEG yang semakin besar yaitu dari 0045 061 g uap airg adsorbent pada PEG 1 g menjadi 0059 04 g uap airg adsorbent pada PEG 3 g. Setelah diimpregnasi dengan CaCl2 40 kapasitas adsorbsi komposit silika-CaCl2 terhadap uap air meningkat menjadi 0196-1533 g uap airg adsorbent meningkat 15 hingga 44 kali pada relative humidity tertentu.


ABSTRACT

The main objective of this research is to develop water selective silica composite with high adsorption capacity for solid sorption refrigeration system. The developed adsorbent has high pore volume and high water selectivity. As host matrix pore silica which is synthesized by water glass sodium silicate is being used. There are three methods for synthesizing silica gel sol-gel method with gelatin template and polyethylene glycol PEG template also sol-gel method with surface modifying agent TMCS and HMDS with atmospheric drying to form silica aerogel. First step of synthesis was preparing precursor which made by diluted sodium silicate water glass and passed through ion exchange resin for sol-gel method with gelatin template and aero gel method. Then precursor is mixed with template PEG-water-HCl solution or gelatin-formic acid solution or TMCS and HMDS for aerogel method. Base solution ammonia or NaOH was added until gel was formed gelatin template method and aerogel method or until pH 4 reached PEG template method.. Gel was aged and dried for certain time and temperature. Gelatin was extracted using Soxhlet and PEG was removed by calcinations. Silica gel that formed by these three method were impregnated with CaCl2 solution and became silica composite. CaCl2 used as hygroscopic salt promoter that can increase viii adsorption capacity of silica gel. Silica composite was characterized for adsorption capacity by gravimetric method pore volume by oil-absorption method and morphology by optical microscope. Silica with gelatin template form white powder with irregular morphology. Silica aerogel is not selective with water hydrophobic. Silica with PEG template obtains porous silica as white powder its morphology is spherical with uniform particle size. Adsorption capacity of silica between 0045 061 g waterg adsorbent at relative humidity between 40 - 100. Adsorption capacity of silica decreases by increasing concentration of PEG i.e 0045 061 g waterg adsorbent for PEG 1 g to 0059 04 g waterg adsorbent for PEG 3 g. After CaCl2 impregnation adsorption capacity silica-CaCl2 composite became 0196-1533 g uap airg adsorbent enhanced 15 to 44 times at certain relative humidity.
