DEGUMMING OF CRUDE JATROPHA OIL WITH HOLLOW FIBER MEMBRANE

ABSTRAK

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menghilangkan getah gum dengan fosfolipid sebagai komponen utamanya dalam minyak jarak pagar melalui proses ultrafiltrasi dengan menggunakan membran hollow fiber dan mempelajari pengaruh variabel operasi suhu umpan dan transmembrane pressure terhadap proses degumming Variabel penelitian degumming dengan membran hollow fiber ini adalah transmembrane pressure 2 3 4 bar dan suhu operasi 30 45 60 oC. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan membran hollow fiber polypropylene 001m. Mula-mula minyak biji jarak di pre-filtrasi dengan kertas saring. Saat melakukan proses ultrafiltrasi permeat ditampung setiap menit untuk mengetahui fluks permeat. Kemudian dilakukan analisis yang meliputi analisis kandungan fosfor dan FFA Free Fatty Acid dalam minyak jarak pagar hasil ultrafiltrasi. Dari hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa degumming minyak jarak pagar dapat dilakukan melalui proses ultrafiltrasi dengan membran hollow fiber polypropylene 001m. Pada transmembrane pressure dan suhu umpan yang semakin tinggi maka R fosfor semakin kecil.


ABSTRACT

This research was aimed to remove gum which phospholipid is the main component in crude jatropha oil by ultrafiltration process using hollow fiber membrane and to study the effects of operating conditions feed temperature and transmembrane pressure to the degumming process. The degumming process was carried out at feed temperature 30 45 60 oC and transmembrane pressure 2 3 4 bar. The 001 m polypropylene hollow fiber membrane was used. The crude jatropha oil was pre filtrated and heated prior to being pumped to the membrane. The outlet flows of the membrane were permeate and retentate. The permeate was collected every minute to study the flux profile and analyzed its phosphorus and FFA content for each operating condition. While the retentate was recycled back to the feed tank. The research showed that the 001 m polypropylene hollow fiber membrane was suitable for degumming process of crude jatropha oil. The R of phosphorus decreased at higher feed temperature and transmembrane pressure.
