ABSTRAK

Perkembangan resolusi dari kamera digital telah memampukan kita untuk meng-capture teks tanpa melakukan kontak fisik. Sayangnya distorsi pada citra yang dihasilkan yang membuat sistem Optical Character Recognition OCR sulit untuk mengidentifikasi isinya dengan benar. Oleh karena itu diperlukan suatu teknik restorasi citra yang dapat menghilangkan distorsi pada citra sehingga tingkat pengenalan teks pada citra oleh sistem OCR menjadi lebih tinggi. Tugas Akhir ini mengimplementasikan sebuah teknik yang dapat menghilangkan distorsi yang berupa orientasi baris teks yang miring pada citra hasil pemotretan dengan kamera digital tersebut. Restorasi citra dilakukan dengan menggunakan character extremum point dan Vertical Stroke Boundary VSB yang diekstraksi dari karakter berdasarkan beberapa fuzzy set dan morphological operator. Kemudian citra dipartisi menjadi baris-baris teks berdasarkan pengklasifikasian character extremum point. Setiap baris teks dirotasikan dengan sudut yang besarnya dapat dicari menggunakan rata-rata orientasi VSB dan pusat rotasi titik sudut sebelah kiri atas dari persegi panjang terkecil yang mengapit setiap baris teks. Dari hasil uji coba teknik ini dapat menghilangkan distorsi berupa orientasi teks yang miring pada citra. Teknik ini dapat merestorasi citra dengan ukuran huruf dan kemiringan baris teks seragam maupun beragam. Pengenalan teks oleh sistem OCR pada citra yang telah direstorasi meningkat dengan rata-rata kenaikan recognition rate sebesar 5714.


ABSTRACT

The improvement on the resolution of digital camera sensors has made us able to capture document without physical contact. Unfortunately distortion in the resulting image makes it hard to properly identify the contents of the captured text using traditional optical character recognition OCR systems. Because of that problem an image restoration technique is needed to remove the distortion so the OCR system can better recognize the text in the image. This final year project implements a technique which is capable of removing the distortion. The image rectification is carried out using character extremum points and vertical stroke boundaries VSB which are extracted from character strokes based on multiple fuzzy sets and morphological operators. Then image is partitioned into multiple text lines based on classification of extracted character extremum points. Each text lines are then rotated by angle of rotation that can be obtained based on average orientation of VSBs around the center point which is the top left point of smallest rectangle that enclosed each text line. From experiment this technique can remove the distortion in the image which is the oblique orientation of text lines. This technique also works well in document image with various font of character and orientation. The recognition rate by the OCR system raise by 5714 after the image is rectified.
