APPLICATION OF XYLANASE ENZYME IN BIOBLEACHING PROCESS

ABSTRAK

Proses pembuatan pulp khususnya proses bleaching masih banyak menggunakan senyawa klorin Sehingga menghadapi masalah pencemaran lingkungan. Diperlukan metode alternatif yang ramah lingkungan untuk mengatasi problem ini salah satunya adalah dikembangkan proses biobleaching dengan menggunakan enzim. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa jauh peranan enzim xylanase pada industri pulp dalam mengurangi penggunaan NaOCl pada proses bleaching. Produksi enzim xylanase menggunakan strain jamur T. reesei. Penelitian ini dibagi menjadi beberapa tahap yaitu persiapan produksi enzim dengan metode solid state fermentation pengujian dan aplikasi pada proses biobleaching.Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan dihasilkan reduksi hemiselulosa sebesar 475 dan reduksi selulosa sebesar 183. Pada proses bleaching menggunakan 01 gr NaOClgr pulp dengan penambahan kosentrasi enzim 106947 IUgr pulp menurunkan lignin dari 1321 menjadi 647 . Sedangkan pada proses bleaching tanpa penambahan enzim xilanase untuk mendapatkan kadar lignin yang sama yaitu 647 membutuhkan NaOCl sebesar 033 gr NaOClgr pulp. Penambahan enzim xylanase ternyata efektif untuk menurunkan penggunaan NaOCl yaitu sebesar 6951 dari kebutuhan NaOCl awal.


ABSTRACT

Until recently bleaching process in the production of pulp still uses chlorine based material which is very toxic to the environment. A benign process is highly required to solve this problem for example by using enzyme. This research aims to study the effectiveness of xylanase to reduce the amount of chlorine. Trichoderma reseei was used for the production of the xylanase in this research. This research consisted of several step preparatory production of enzyme enzyme assay and application in biobleaching process. In the preparatory step yeast extract was used as organic nitrogen source. Production of enzyme used solid state fermentation method. From the experimental result using enzyme activity of 764 IUml hemicelluloses was reduced from 906 to 56 and cellulose was reduced from 7032 to 6986. In the bleaching process using 01 gram NaOClgram pulp and enzyme concentration of 106947 IUgram pulp lignin was decreased from 1321 to 647. While bleaching without the addition of enzyme to obtain the same lignin concentration of 647 NaOCl of 033 gramgram pulp was needed. Addition of xylanase was found effective to reduce the amount of NaOCl as high as 6951.
