ABSTRAK

Aplikasi bentuk silinder dalam dunia teknik telah banyak dilakukan. Silinder merupakan suatu bentuk bangun yang relatif sederhana dan gampang dimodifikasi. Misalnya di bidang rancang bangun gedung bertingkat banyak desain gedung yang berbentuk dasar silinder. Di bidang bangunan lepas pantai pondasi dari platform berbentuk silinder Cooling tower dan cerobong asap pabrik juga berbentuk silinder. Dari studi yang pernah dilakukan menyatakan bahwa apabila sebuah silinder dilintasi oleh aliran fluida secara tegak lurus maka akan timbul gaya drag. Gaya drag ini dapat direduksi dengan cara menempatkan silinder pengganggu di depannya. Dimana karakteristik aliran silinder pengganggu sangat mempengaruhi silinder utama.Dalam penelitian ini digunakan silinder ellips teriris sebagai pengganggu Topik yang dikaji dalam penelitian ini adalah aliran melintasi silinder utama yang tandem dengan elips teriris dengan axis ratio AB 14 di depannya. Jarak antara silinder dengan ellips GD divariasikan antara 05 075 1 125. Sedangkan irisan ellips tB ditentukan 10 diletakkan tegak lurus terhadap freestream. Penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimental dengan cara meletakkan silinder berdiameter 114 mm dan ellips dengan susunan tandem di dalam terowongan angin wind tunnel dengan bilangan Reynolds sebesar 64.000 berdasarkan diameter silinder utamanya. Distribusi tekanan diukur dengan pressure tap yang terpasang pada permukaan silinder maupun ellips. Sedangkan profil kecepatan aliran dihitung dengan menggunakan pitot static tube yang dipasang di belakang silinder. Juga dilakukan visualisasi aliran dengan metode oil flow picture. Hasil Eksperimen menunjukkan bahwa jarak GD 05 adalah jarak yang paling efektif dalam menurunkan Drag yaitu sebesar 63 daripada gaya Drag silinder sirkularsedangkan jarak GD 075 merupakan jarak kritis dimana ellips tidak banyak berpengaruh pada penurunan gaya drag


ABSTRACT

In enginering application cylinder is mostly used shape in many cases. Besides its simple shape cylinder is also easy to be modified . For example in the structural storage buildings offshore buildings the platforms foundation cooling toweretc. Recent studied showed that if a fluid flows passing through the cylinder perpendicularly it will create a drag force which is often disadvantaging. Many methods have been used to reduce this drag force one of them is placed a disturbance cylinder in front of the main cylinder. It means the flow characterisitcs in front of main cylinder has a great effect to its drag force. In this case cutted elliptical cylinder was used as it disturbance. The topic that is studied in this experiment is flow passing through a circular cylinder on tandem arrangement with ellipse aspect ratio AB 14 cut in the front side. The gap ratio between cylinder and ellipse GD is variated from 0.5 to 1.25. The cut ratio tB is 10 placed perpendicular to the freestream. This experiment is experimentally done by locating the cylinder with diameter 114 cm and ellipse in the wind tunnel in Reynolds 64000 based on the main cylinder diameter and the freestream velocity. Pressure distribution is measured by pressure tap in the surface of both cylinder and ellips. While the velocity profile calculated by placing the pitot static tube behind the circular cylinder then visualization with oil flow picture method The experimental result shows that gap ratio GD 05 is the most effective distance in reducing Drag force with 63 of Drag reducing compared with drag force in single cylinder. In Gap ratio GD 075 critical distance happens where in that distance the disturbance ellipse has less effect to reduce the drag force
