THE PERFORMANCE OF COMPOST PRODUCED BY UDPK BRATANG AS ION EXCHANGER MEDIA IN REMOVING Hg2 FROM ARTIFICIAL WASTEWATER IN CONTINOUS SYSTEM

ABSTRAK

Cara pengolahan limbah yang mengandung logam berat dengan metode pertukaran ion telah diuji dalam beberapa penelitian sebelumnya. Salah satunya memanfaatkan kompos daun yaitu kompos UDPK Usaha Daur ulang dan Produksi Kompos Bratang sebagai media resin penukar ion yang efektif menurunkan kadar Cu Pb Cr dan Hg pada air limbah. Tetapi belum dilakukan penelitian tentang kemampuan media kompos diaplikasikan secara kontinyu. Pada penelitian ini digunakan media kompos dengan ukuran ayakan 1640 mesh lolos pada ukuran 16 mesh dan tertahan pada ukuran 40 mesh kompos tersebut dibagi menjadi dua media. Media I adalah pellet kompos dengan ukuran diameter 635 mm dan media II adalah kompos yang dicampurkan pasir kuarsa 1640 dengan rasio komposisi kompospasir 91. Percobaan dilakukan skala laboratorium menggunakan kolom penukar ion dengan diameter ukuran 1 2 3 inchi dan kedalaman media 30 40 50 cm. Dari percobaan diperoleh media kompos yang optimum sebagai media penukar ion dalam sistem kontinyu adalah media II kompos yang dicampurkan pasir kuarsa dan ukuran kolom penukar ion yang optimum digunakan dalam sistem kontinyu adalah kolom dengan diameter 1 inchi dan kedalaman media 30 cm.


ABSTRACT

Several methods to process industrial waste containing heavy metals with ion exchange method has been tested in some previous experiments. One of them was using the leaf compost UDPK Bratang as ion exchanger resin that was able to remove concentration of Cu PbCr and Hg effectively in lower degree in the wastewater.However experiment on the ability of the compost media which is continuously applied has not been done. This research used compost media with 1640 mesh size sieve pass the 16 mesh size and restrained on the size of 40 mesh and the compost is divided into two media. Media I is compost pellet with diameter size 635 mm and media II is a compost mixed with sand quartz 1640 mesh with composition ratio of compost sand 9 1. This experiments were conducted using a laboratory-scale ion exchange column with diameter size of column 1 2 3 inch and the depth of media 30 40 50 cm. Compost media was obtained from the experiment that could be applied in the continous system was media II and the optimum size of ion exchange column was used in continous system was the diameter of column 1 inchi and the depth of media 30 cm.
