LEACHATE TREATMENT WITH ACTIVATED CARBON FILTER IN A VERTICAL REACTOR

ABSTRAK

Tempat Pembuangan Akhir Benowo Surabaya masih menerapkan pembuangan sampah pada lahan terbuka open dumping dimana seharusnya terdapat lapisan kedap air sehingga lindi tidak bisa teresap kedalam air tanah namun kenyataan sebaliknya. Oleh karena itu dilakukan penelitian ini sebagai dasar dan masukan jenis filter granular yang baik digunakan untuk mengurangi kadar pencemar dari air kolam penampungan lindi. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara melewatkan air kolam penampungan lindi dalam suatu reaktor filter granular dari karbon aktif dimana jenis karbon aktif yang digunakan ada dua yaitu yang berasal dari tempurung kelapa dan kayu sono. Sebelum dilewatkan pada reaktor dilakukan dua perlakuan terhadap air kolam penampungan lindi yaitu dengan pre-treatment dan tanpa pre-treatment Dimana air kolam penampungan lindi diencerkan sebanyak 10 x. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa filter granular mampu mengurangi kadar pencemar dari air kolam penampungan lindi dimana hasil terbaik terdapat pada filter granular yang berasal dari tempurung kelapa baik penggunaan tanpa pre-treatment maupun dengan pre-treatment pada air kolam penampungan lindi dimana koagulan terbaik yang dapat digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk perlakuan pre-treatment yaitu PAC.


ABSTRACT

In the Benowo landfill of Surabaya an open dumping system is still used. A waterproof liner is not put below the landfill. It makes the leachate from the landfill can infiltrate into groundwater. This research will examine the potential of granular filter carbon to reduce the pollution from the leachate pool to groundwater. This research is conducted by flowing the leachate water from leachate pond through a granular filter vertical reactor. There are two types of granular carbon they are coconut shells and sono wood. There are two condition of the leachate untreated and pre-treated. The leachate is diluted 10 times. The results of this research show that the granular carbon filter is capable to reduce the pollutant content in the leachate. The best results are obtaine by the carbon filter from coconut shell for both untreated and pre-treated leachate. The best substance that can be used in this research for pre-treatment is the PAC.
