ABSTRAK

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh kadar TMCS dan HMDS terhadap surface area dan volume pori dalam pembuatan silika aerogel. Karakter yang diinginkan adalah silika aerogel yang memiliki kapasitas adsorpsi yang besar volume pori yang besar dan bersifat hidrofobik. Untuk mensintesis silika aerogel pada penelitian ini digunakan metode sol-gel. Sintesis diawali dengan pembuatan larutan asam silicic yang diperoleh dari abu bagasse yang diekstraksi dengan larutan NaOH kemudian dilewatkan dalam resin penukar ion. Larutan asam silicic ini kemudian ditambahkan dengan TMCS dan HMDS sebagai agen pemodifikasi permukaan. Untuk mengatur pH hingga mencapai 8-9 ditambahkan larutan NH4OH. Gel yang dihasilkan kemudian di-aging dan dikeringkan dengan suhu dan waktu tertentu. Karakterisasi produk dilakukan dengan pengukuran volume pori dan surface area menguji hidrofobisitasnya serta melihat morfologinya. Silika aerogel yang dihasilkan berbentuk bongkahan serbuk kasar dan serbuk halus. Surface area dan volume pori yang dihasilkan dengan hasil paling besar yaitu 48895 m2g dan 09481 cm3g.


ABSTRACT

The main objective of this research is to learn the effect of TMCS and HMDS volume ratio to surface area and pore volume in silica aerogel synthesis. The developed material should have high adsorption capacity high pore volume and hydrophobic. To synthesize the silica aerogel in this research we used a sol-gel method. This synthesis began with preparing silicic acid solution by extracting bagasse ash with 2 N NaOH solution and then passing it through the ion exchange resin. This silicic acid then was added with TMCS and HMDS as surface modifying agent. To reach pH at 8-9 solution was dropwised by 1 N NH4OH solution. After that we aged and dried the resulted gel in certain temperature and time. Characterization of the products was done by calculating the pore volume testing their hydrophobicity observing their morphologies by SEM and measuring their adsorption capacity by BET. The resulted silica aerogel are in the form of powder and bead particles. The best physical properties i.e surface area and pore volume are resulted as 48895 m2g dan 09481 cm3g.
